Production Figures

Post by dstocks »

I thought it was time to drag this information out again. Below are the production figures for the FTO according the CAPS (Mitsubishis Parts database). CAPS has every chassis number for every FTO made and for each it specifies information such as model, colour etc. A few years ago, I reverse engineered the CAPS database to get at the data and below are some of the results:

Model Numbers Produced Each Year

Code: Select all

Model 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 Totals
GS 817 2586 380 206 112 80 20 4201
GR 5423 6726 158 66 37 19 4 12433
GR Limited 0 1602 0 0 0 0 0 1602
GR Sport 0 2 1807 0 0 0 0 1809
GX Sport 0 0 0 768 307 199 69 1343
GX Aero 0 0 0 19 144 73 59 295
GPX 2992 8505 1267 566 237 155 81 13803
GPX Nakaya Tune 0 0 122 0 0 0 0 122
GPX Limited 0 207 0 0 0 0 0 207
GP 0 1 77 0 0 0 0 78
GPvR 0 0 0 353 102 65 22 542
GPvR Aero 0 0 0 16 199 99 56 370
Totals 9232 19629 3811 1994 1138 690 311 36805
So, lets look at this. If we take my 99 Aero as an example, yes its a limited edition Version R, but it is actually less rare in 99 than the standard version R with 99 made vs 65 standard models made. There are other interesting figures in here as well. So, in short, before saying you have something very rare, do your homework, because it may not be as rare as you think.

Here is the same thing with colours:

Model Numbers for each Paint Colour

Code: Select all

Model Pyrenees Steel Icecelle Passion Scotia Dandelion Moonlight Symphonic Timber Kielder Imperial Kutani Unknown Totals
Black Silver Blue Red White Yellow Blue Silver Green Green Red Red
GS 841 1592 19 532 393 0 348 140 1 3 326 1 5 4201

I have done some preliminary cross checking against VIN numbers in CAPS and all figures seem to match up which means that there is a reasonable chance that these figures are correct. I dont know where the production figures on some of the websites out there come from, but without a reliable source id have to say that it is most likely that they are flawed.

Not exactly what I would have expected, but there you go. Wouldnt mind a Kielder Green or Timber Green one. Have seen a picture, but with only 14 ever made, would be extremely unlikely to pick one up.

Maybe I should also do one based on transmission. You quite often see people advertising their manual as a 'rare' entity as well.

It would be interesting to see how many of each colour where made each year, and then what transmissions as well, I know in my copy of the Mitsi ASA, it can tell me what Transmission I have, so It should be possible to get that in mass numbers like that shouldn't it?

So my 1998 GPvR is more "rare" than a 1998 GPvR Aero?

Interesting there are more silver and black FTOs, but I always tend to see white.

You wont be able to get the tables I have put up. You can enter your chassis number and itll give you a bit about your car or select parts, but thats about it. .

I managed to decrypt the database tables and wrote some code to extract the data into Microsoft Access. I havent managed to get everything out, but have enough.

I just checked and have a text file with all the data in it. Is 2.3mb. Happy to email it to anyone that wants to have a play with it. Is a CSV file, so should be able to suck it into most databases without an issue.
