My New Version R

Post by dstocks »

Recently picked up another Version R. 5 sp tip with just over 200K on the clock. Finally got the chance to take a couple of pics. Outside is now up to spec. Interior isnt bad, got a couple of things to tidy up, but nothing. major. Engine is great, gearbox has an issue I still have to sort. This will be the biggest job. Oh and tyres are too big (rubbing), so need to sort that too. Overall, pretty pleased with the aquisition...

Probably a daily for a while.

This makes 3 version R's and a GPX at the moment. Enough for a mini meet....

Yep. apart from the gearbox, pretty good really. Front bar needed another coat of paint (done) and one of the aircon wires is still broken. Seats need a steam clean, handbrake needs adjusting. Got cruise control, but it isnt connected.Made it all the way back from brissy though, so seems pretty reliable.

Huge overstatement. If it did, isnt so bad anymore. Just a bit musty. Could have been the vintage burger in the centre console (gone now). Have changed the carpet anyway just in case as it was a smokers car at some point, but its not really an issue.

Actually, not convinced the gearbox is actually broken. Good chance its the torque converter. No error codes, slipping in all gears and when I changed the fluid today, I can now get it to move backwards up to a foot before it slips and stops moving. Feels exactly like a slipping clutch.....

So, next job gearbox out and swap the torque converter. And if that doesnt work, ill have to have to workout where to go from there. Not sure whether id source another LSD tip or just do a manual conversion.

Yep, our other 2 FTO's are both manual, and to be honest, would prefer manual any day of the week, but the if the gearbox is actually OK, its a lot cheaper to stick with what ive already got, it requires a lot less work to get running and I wouldnt lose the LSD in the process. Even with these disadvantages, still considering a conversion.

              Nice buy.
Do the FTO automatics suffer from that weak wave spring issue like some of the other Mitsubishi transmissions of the era?
