Installing OEM LSD

Post by dazjb »

When swapping an LSD from one gearbox into another is it a straight forward swap or is there some shims that need fitting? I've read that when installing an aftermarket LSD that shims may need fitting but this is an FTO LSD that I'm taking from a gearbox and fitting into my own.

I've got the info on stripping the box down just not sure on this shimming business.

Cheers

Each box has different tolerances.

The shims are there to "fill in the gaps" and give you the correct tolerance.

There is a procedure in the gearbox manual how to check the tolerances and what shims you need.

The gearbox manual can be found in the downloads section.

If you need to double check / need help with disassembling the gearbox, have a look at my guide in the DIY section Image
