Different cambelts?

Post by Rob Furniss »

What's the deal with different cambelts? been told that the one we fitted to Rowans car about 2 years ago is the wrong one, is this possible?
Got it from ebay as a kit but I don't have the details anymore, it's a Dayco belt.
He has a GPX.

Mivec vs non-mivec are different. 232 vs 226 teeth.

Ah yeah the Dayco one for the MIVEC is wrong. A few people have had this issue.

The Dayco one is 257 teeth whereas it should be 232.

It has to be 232 otherwise it won't stay in time

So we must have fitted the correct one then, as we'd know about it within a short space of time of driving the car? (this was about 2 years ago)
Or would it just knock it out 1 tooth which may be hard to notice?
Cars in the shop and they are saying wrong belt had been fitted previously.

257 tooth won't fit. It's too long. Or it might but would be loose
