Decompression Gaskets.

Post by FTODreams »

Alright. So the turbo build on my 6a12 mivec is getting started.

Now I've read through lots of turbo FTO builds and seen a lot of people don't decompress their engine but they also don't seem to make as much power as others (I.e Vectose/Vecdose).

I'm kind of leaning towards not using one and if it blows after that I'll just go ahead and get forged internals. This is mainly to keep more fuel economy off boost (I do a lot of highway driving), but I know I'll be way more prone to knock.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm ok at 8-9psi, not sure i'd push 12 without decompressing but it's up to you.

Should be fine at 10-12 on 98 and maybe 14 on E85 as long as you have a good tuner and not the one you will most likely take it to. lol

I think Tim's is running 11psi.

I was gonna up mine to 20psi but decided to go a different route with the next build.

I rarely use my e85 even though I've got the flex fuel sensor. So probably 12 it is and it only ever gets 98 anyways.

Nah it's not going back to them ever Vectose. Not after how expensive it was last time and the amount of things I had to correct anyways. Maybe buy parts from them on the odd occasion (if I could get it from Viamoto I would)

I'm not aiming for all out HP with this set up. I'll leave that to you and the other guys with 6a13's. I just want a responsive mid range with not dumb amounts of lag.

I'm just not a turbo expert is all and I'm trying to suss out what to get the new Garrett G25-550 for the compressor housing 0.49A/R or 0.72A/R. I have no idea if that's too small or too big. So if I decompress I could run 16 psi and that I think would be enough for it to run optimally? I'm just not sure.
