Hi All I'm new!!! Please help lulz

Post by Invader_X »

I have yet to make an into topic in the Newbie section but I got too excited and wanted some KNOWLEDGE!!!

Now before I begin, I understand that the FTO GPX has been highly and finely tuned from the factory and there isn't much more you can do performance wise.

However, has anyone actually done any tests with fitting:

Headers:

HKS Super Dragger:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HKS-Super-Dra ... 35e57951ed

And pod/intake? Apparently the Mitsubishi Eclipse intake arm will fit on the FTO? (Could someone please confirm):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311308579835? ... EBIDX%3AIT

I am hoping to get a bit more power with these upgrades and this godly sound:

If anyone has any experience with what I am trying to achieve or know anything please share!

Thanks all!

Not sure about the Japspeed headers. Most of us have RPW/Hurricane headers (exactly the same) and get good results.

Wouldn't bother wasting money on a Super Dragger. Just get a nice 2.5 inch from headers back made up with a hi-flow cat and a muffler that you like the sound of. No idea about the intake. I guess as long as the throttle body is the same size then it should be fine, but make sure it has a hole or pipe for the breather hose.
I fix cars.

A stock GPX in good condition should put out 100kw At the Wheels (quite a bit more if you measure at the flywheel). Manuals have a little extra power due to slightly higher losses through the tip transmission. You can get decent gains by changing a few things. In my case:

- ARC Intake box with UAS intake pipe + custom cold air induction from front grill
- RPW extractors
- Mandrel bent 2.5" system with triple flow mufflers and a high flow cat.
- Haltech Interceptor Platinum

I have 131KW at the wheels (about 1/3 more power). Is totally legal too

A few facts:

- A bigger exhaust will not give you more power. 2.5" is optimum (2.25" is stock). Bigger and you will lose power due to a drop in back pressure
- A cannon will attract police but wont give you any extra power
- Punching out or removing the catalytic converter will give you more power, but the fine is horrific, so dont do it.
- An aftermarket ECU (such as a haltech) will free up more power, and will potentially give you better fuel economy as well.

A well designed sports system will give you a good note without attracting police.

Hope this helps

Superdragger is too expensive. Get a good custom system made it.Will release more power (because youll be able to afford to replace cat as well) and sound just as good. As far as extractors go, you are restricted to Hurricane or RPW in Australia. They are pretty much the same thing anyway.

[edit]Should have askedif you are in Australia or Europe. If Europe, the Japspeed ones should be OK too.If Australia, you are better off buying from RPW in Perth[/edit]

Oh and if you are in Australia, the club bonfire is only a few weeks away now, so if you are interested in what can be done, thats a good one to come to. On NSW South Coast on 28th.Have QLD and SA and VIC contingents coming this year

If you're in Australia, I have a pair of RPW extractors for sale (no Y pipe though, will need to be fabbed up)

Stock exhaust is 2.25 isn't it? I thought 2.5 was ideal.

Its been so long since I got mine made up and I get those figures mixed up all the time. So, in short, I think you are right actually. Will edit original post to reduce confusion

        Thanks for replies!!

What is a-" ARC Intake box with UAS intake pipe + custom cold air induction from front grill"

Anyone have pics or links where I can buy?

Unfortunately I live in New Zealand haha. But the good thing is they don't care about the catalytic converter. So replacing this with a test pipe should net me really good gains? Im just worried about the sound it will produce.

I think this car came with an aftermarket exhaust, comparing my tips and muffler with friends it is massive.

This car has been full of surprises, first I find a Manual GPX for $3,000 (NZ), well taken care of, pulls very hard. And then I find out it has traction control, and then LSD and then an after market exhaust. Love this thing.

Anyhow, in my case will a pod filter replacing the stock airbox net much gains? Will it help define the MIVEC sound?

Have a look in parts for sale for the ARC or UAS pieces. I believe there are at least one of each up at the moment.

Pod filter is good to hear MIVEC, but will not make a noticeable performance difference.

Pod filter won't do sh*t for power, only sound. I have ARC pipe and box for sale, uber rare especially the box.

You should however look into replacing your head light fluid with a high performance one, that will give you a lot of gain.

Daniel (above) has an arc box for sale- thats the one you should be chasing. The ARC pipe looks pretty, but not sure how good that is re gains. Most people recommend the UAS pipe instead.

Okay I have never, ever see that sort of pipe design in all my life of car tuning/modifying.

Can someone explain what the ARC pipe looks like that,w hats the theory/philosophy behind the design?

What is a UAS pipe? And how does it differ from the ARC?

How do both these pipes/intake set ups benefit over the stock intake set up + panel filter or Pod?

I'm in NZ too, removing the cat made my exhaust slightly louder, but also horrifically raspy, it's pretty damn bad :(
I have an ARC intake in mine too, but haven't done the remainder of the intake system yet.

Ive only got one Dyno done, but its before/after the Haltech. As a benchmark, Standard FTO is 100kw at the wheels

I think they're on the UK site or something... but it won't make all that much of a difference. UAS has been proven to be the best intake for performance with ARC behind it.

You really won't get any major power increases from just an intake unless you do the throttle body and intake manifold. Best way to get power is do all your basic bolt on mods like intake and exhaust and stuff then run an aftermarket ECU.

Pretty limited in terms of power being able to be made.
