Clutch felt gritty, got stuck down

Post by spetz »

Hi guys,

I pressed the clutch in my car (has not ran for about 8 years) and it felt stiff, gritty and got stuck down.
It went back up overnight, and today I press it and it is smooth without issues, but the first few cm of travel are soft and feel odd.

Any ideas what this is, and what to check?
I assume I should be checking the master/slave cylinders and do a bleed?

Def do a flush and see how it goes. I would flush and change both master and slave cylinders for a car that has been sitting for 8 years. Also engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, gearbox oil and coolant flush. Air filter clean.

If you are changing either of the cylinders, change the other one as well. If one goes, the other will follow soon.

Definitely start with a bleed. Fluid will have absorbed water over 8 years.
