Adjusting valve clearance

Post by flateric »

hi Guys,

After 71k genuine miles on my fto it's time to check and adjust the valve clearance on my GPX. I have done this multiple times on hondas but never did this on a mivec so i checked the web for instructions. i found the workshop manual which clearly instructs to set the piston at TDC. (Cam lobes pointing away from each other or towards each other depending on which cilinder head you work on, rear or front)

However.. the instruction at https://ftoworx.files.wordpress.com/201 ... appets.pdf states that i have to ensure that the nose of the cam lobe for the valves you’re adjusting is vertical, relative to the cam carrier.

I am confused now

please help!

Doesn't matter where the cams lobes are located as long as it isn't under load on the one you're adjusting...

Doesn't have to be vertical but for organization's sake and keeping it simple, follow the manual.

ok that makes sense to me. the manual states TDC so not vertical. cam lobes either pointing away from each other or towards (not under load and both valves closed).

thanks!

I've not looked into this however will be adjusting my tappets as I'll be replacing my valve stem seals, however in my mind the clearances must be set at the engine position where the camshaft is on its lowest axis (ie, off the lobe) relative to the valve.
Would this be correct?
