I use the Castrol 5w30 every time right from my first oil change. Never a problem works great :D .
I thought you'd be using Shell Helix aza! :P

It's about $68 or something at the moment at my local (ish) SCA.
Should have stocked up on it when it was $40.
I stocked up on it when it was free :cheeky: I still have over 25 Litres

Hi guys,

What oil would best suit the 6A12M for track work?

The engine is rebuilt so tolerances are tight.
I wanted to use Shell Helix Ultra 5W30, but according to the Shell website, only the Shell Helix 10W60 is for "racing applications".

What do people recommend?
My other options are:
Castrol Edge 5W30 but I am not a huge Castrol fan
Mobil1. Not too sure on their range but from my research the Shell Helix Ultra range is on par quality wise but costs less

Is Royal Purple a good option?
Liquimoly?

I do no want to use Penrite, Nulon, Valvoline.

Nothing wrong with Penrite!

Anyway yeah i'd go Castrol Edge then. Just a good quality Synthetic will be fine, and given the choice I'd be using Edge personally.

As for royal purple, overpriced rubbish.
I fix cars.

I've used Penrite HPR10 in my daily Verada and just didn't like it. Not scientific I know but I am under the impression that Penrite is overhyped simply because it is Australian owned.
Also the cost of Penrite is too similar to Shell Helix Ultra which is a leading oil, so given the option I'd go Shell.

What don't you like about it? I have used it in a bunch of different cars but in my FTO I run Helix as per owner's manual.

I have no scientific basis not to like it, but other than a lot of talk I haven't seen anything particularly good about it, and from BITOG forums the additives in them seem not ideal (not that I understand what the additives do or anything).
Also, when I used HPR10 in my Verada it just didn't seem to like it. It ran smoother and quieter on Shell Helix Ultra

Penrite 10 tenths is what all the evo guys run and Nulon. No bad news is good news.
