Installing a Sound system into my FTO.

Post by iPilot »

Hey guys so im quite inexperienced when it comes to anything car related.
I was just after some help with installing a sound system into my FTO which mainly comprises of a head unit, 2 6x9 speakers an amplifier and a sub.
Any advice that anyone can offer and a step by step guide would be great. Cheers.
Its either an FTO or nothing!

check out http://www.ftodiy.co.uk/ and http://www.completefto.com.au/CompleteFTO.asp?hid=155

becareful with the stereo surround when you are getting it out as it tend to crack easily.

and for the rear 6x9s, you need a very short screw driver to get to it. I used a L-shaped screwdriver thingy to get mine

I can put in rear speakers no problems for you. Probably front ones too. Wouldnt trust myself with a head unit. Cant do an amp.

If you bring whatever speakers you want in + your car to mine then i'll do it for you for nothin.
I fix cars.

Sweet as man, by the time i get my p's though and be allowed to drive down to your place i'd probably have a mate that would have already put them in for me but will see what happens in time.
On wednesday when i get my car will be putting in the head unit so theres no problems there.
& eventually my mate would be able to connect the amp also - thanks for the offer dude!
I'll def keep u posted on how things are progressing.
Way more detailed photos will be up on Wednesday.

Amps are easy to install
1 power wire from the battery to the amp with an inline fuse attached as close to the battery as possible.
1 ground wire from the amp to a bolt in the boot, ideally one that is a good grounding point.
1 remote wire (can do this a few different ways) from your headunit to your amp. find your headunits remote wire and tap into it. It's usually a blue wire that's not connected to anything. or you could connect this to an aftermarket switch on the dash so you can turn on and off your amp.
1 set of male to male RCA leads, plug them into the back of your headunit (if it has plugs, and if not you have to tap into the existing speaker wires) and then into your amp
And then speaker wire from your amp to your speakers or subs or your nipples if you really want. And then drop the basssssssss

You cant f**k anything up, lol it'd be fused so all you'd do is blow a fuse if you do f**k up. or you could hook up the remote wire wrong and drain the battery.
Or you could take the terminals off the positive end of the battery and reset your ecu, then wonder why your car keeps stalling and shitting yourself thinking your cars fucked. when really all it is doing is learning to idle again (yes I did this) lol
