Decent Sound System for around $1500 - $2000ish ideas

Post by den0va »

So yeah as in the subject I am looking to spend around $1500 to $2000 on a sound system for my FTO. Although I am admittedly a noob when it comes to this sort of stuff here are some requirements that I would personally like:

- I am looking for best SOUND QUALITY for my budget.
- A Decent Double Din Headunit which supports CD, DVD, MP3, Bluetooth, USB, SD, all the good stuff and maybe even GPS, if it is worth it.
- Already have decent tweeters installed so only looking to replace the (2) 6.5" door speakers and the (2) 6X9's.
- Want as little rattle as possible. I think the boot will be the main concern in this area.
- Angled sub box with either (2 x 10") or (2 x 12") subs tuned to whatever makes the subs sound best, sealed enclosure preferred.

IDK anything else doesn't come to mind so sorry if I have missed anything... :P

dude go hard on the h/u get a nice alpine one.. will be a bit exxy regardless, for a decent double din your lookin at several hundred (brand new)
then speakers maybe about 250 a set ? alpine type r's or type s's for example, and amp them.. probably 2-300 on the amp

then get an ok sub and amp (id say pioneer for this, i honestly think they do pretty well say you spend about 300 for both - personal experience) i think duals are a bit of an overkill when you could just get one nice clean sub and power it up.. and if u want massive bass get a ported box

plus dont forget wires etc.. prob 150 all up ? for decent set 4gauge

and before i forget.. it really depends on what you listen to aswell.. if u want massive bass. go phard on sub/amp nd def get a ported box

soo.. say 700 for h/u.. 500 for speakers 250 amp 300 sub and amp 150 wires.. thats 1800 example.. ofcourse u can get sh*t cheaper if u get it 2nd hand or find a friend whos into sound systems whos just upgraded or has spare stuff...
ofcourse this is my opionion.. and people may disagree

if your lookin at brand new stuff, try http://www.elite-electronics.com.au iv been browsing at their stuff, and for brand new sh*t its fairly priced :)

There's a great Pioneer H/U out (and has been for a while) that's a DD unit with GPS plugin. You don't have to get the GPS plug for it when you buy it first up, but have the option of putting it in later.

Agree with the Alpine S's and R's, depends on what you want though. Seeing as you want to run a sub, I'd go with the S's as they're a little cheaper and still give great sound quality, just not quite as much bass response as the R's. For the sub, personally I like the Kicker Kick-Pack they were doing (bout $500 for amp and sub unit inlc. wiring). Kicker do some quality stuff, as they're a sub-group from JL audio IIRC (as are MTX).

I've got Alpine S's and a Kenwood 4ch 500W amp in my truck, and that does me fine. Could probably do with a slimline under-seat sub at times, but it's got enough sound to drown out my diesel  A good sound tune will do wonders as well, never underestimate the power of playing with the EQ to get exactly what you want. When you get there, write it down so you don't lose it!
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!
