Disable Remote Start?

Post by crosso »

Title says it all really, i bought my car with a remote start button, however its really a nuissance how easy it is to bump the button since its directly below the central locking buttons. Is there any way I can disable it alone? I know I can turn the whole thing off under the hood, theres a small keyslot to turn it off but that turns all of the remote features off

I assume a remote start is spliced into the ignition wiring? Could try and trace the wire and disable it.

Could also open up your remote and disable the button one would think.
I fix cars.

any idea which alarm you are using? Viper...steelmate etc. Viper has a feature where you need to press it once and hold the second time to reduce chances of accidental activation of the remote start. its a feature in 5704 and above. if your are using viper, contact them.
it is reverseable as its consider as an "extra" feature. Most reputable auto electrician will be able to do it. Autobarn might be able to help too seeing that they do sell and install, just not sure if all of them does it

I'll have a look under the hood and around the area for a logo or number or something, thanks.
In the meantime I'll pull apart the spare key version

Thanks

It might be easier to pull apart the remote and remove the button. Take the rubber bit off that sits over the circuit board (might have to cut it) and put a piece of tape over the circuit board underneath where the button was.
LED ALL the things.

it will have a safety switch somewhere most likely under dash kick panel to toggle on or off. If not just the cut the RPM pick up wire which will also disable remote start, or if you not good at that kinda stuff just follow supplanters advise

Alright so it is Viper.

This is the circuit board where it makes contact with the rubber buttons below

Not really sure how I'd go about removing the bit of rubber from that

You don't need to remove the rubber, just remove the metal tactile button that's on the circuit board (the ones in the first picture).

Disable Remote Start?

Post by JOA81 »

Ok I just fitted one of them to my car I'm pretty sure

Does the remote look like this

Image

If so there should be a switch to tell it if the bonnets open and another on off switch inside some where as well to turn it off

As in lock the buttons on the remote just thought I would clarify so you can't accidentally bump them you have to press the F button then the unlock button to unlock the remote buttons again

Sorry man I only just saw your replies.
Yeah that would be awesome if you could teach me how to program it?
I'd rather give that a try before pulling apart the actual button
