Post by dstocks »

Got my blue vinyl sample yesterday - stoked with the colour. So I started this morning with a mirror and did a sideskirt tonight. Im comfortable that I can do the whole car myself now. Here is the result:

Are you going to do the side skirt vents in a gun metal colour?

Havent got it Yet. Just grabbed a couple of metres to test the colour. Will be more expensive than most though as it is a metallic.

I've contacted HEXIS to see what their requirements are for becoming a distributor. The main companies which sell it in Australia are overpriced due to less competition, so hopefully something can be worked out.

There is only 1 company selling it in Australia from what I found.

Ive done a lot of practicing to get this far (have done door jambs, boot lid channel, mirrors again in orange).Have also watched quite a few you tube videos. There is a bit of a knack to it and you wont be able to do it without a heat gun, a squeegee and quite a bit of patience. Happy to do lessons at my place for anyone interested.

Yeah, called them a few days ago. Got quoted $45 a metre (ex gst). I suspect that is where my samples came from. Thought id do the right thing and go through the guy in Canberra. He's been pretty good to me. And I ended up getting more than I asked for. Only asked for a metre of blue to play with and got at least twice that. Same goes for the satin black I grabbed off him. Have gun metal grey as well, but havent checked how much of that ive got.

Did your vinyl wrap guy say how much the FTO needed in terms of metres? (or a rough figure)

That is why im going vinyl - can go back to white (and the fact its cheaper and I can do it myself)

That really depends on how much you do and how much you waste. He was saying 17 metres, but for him, that wouldnt have included the areas that you cant see from outside the car. Having said that, I got about 2 metres and so far have done 2 mirrors (stuffed first one) and a large side skirt and may have enough left for the outside of the door, so im thinking it may not take that much. I will be ordering 17 though. Wont hurt to have a little left over.

Yep, cant paint for sh*t, so this really appeals to me and I am enjoying it. May start a little business on the side down the track.
