Group Buy: CCFL Rings to make Angel Eyes

Post by TCGPX »

Just trying to guage some interest in a group buy for CCFL halos to make angel eyes.

For those who don’t know, angel eyes (sometimes called demon eyes too) are the halos that BMW have around the lights on their 5 series cars.

The kits are available in a range of colours (White, Blue, Red, Green, Orange, Purple, Pink and UV)

Info here:
www.eefl.cn/ccflring.htm

To fit them you will need to bake the headlights to remove the lenses. Sounds scary, but it’s really not that hard. The look on peoples faces when you tell em you stuck your headlights in your oven is hilarious too.
Here is a guide from FTOOC for the indicator pods, same procedure for the main lights...

www.ftooc.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=47668

Works out to be about $50 a set plus freight from Adelaide if we get 5 sets, but will be cheaper if we can get more people together.

Noccers- Interest noted.

BorepYano- PM Sent

Have you got any pics of your LED ones, I'm interested to see how they turned out.

If we have all of this finalised by the end of Feb, gives people enough time to get onboard (there always seem to be stragglers on GB's.) and to sort out the $.

I'd like to have a good Idea of numbers a week before that so I can organise final price based on quantity.

I'll be getting mine as part of the group buy as well. BorepYano has done a similar thing with LEDs fitted to a plastic rod he's modified, that's why I was asking him for a pic of his.
He was also talking about writing a DIY guide on them, the installation part of which could be applied to these.

Closest I've got to a pic on an FTO is this:

When I get mine, I can do a guide to installing these specifically if it's different to Borepyano's. There are also some options in terms of how they are wired up I can cover too.

no i havent yet, well i dont have any with them fully working... got them to work but realised that i was too lazy with the wiring and i was gettin bad connection so i had to redo it. (i dont reconmand using any angel eyes when u've painted your headlights white though, lol, when i had them working it lit up my whole living room)

i'll have some photos as soon as i can get back to them, it's been horrible at work, on top of that the gf moving houses... i dont even have time to sleep anymore lol

BTW u have a PM
i've just sent an email to them i think (i used their inquiry form and it's *~delightful!~*), i've asked them for prices, freight cost to here, and freight cost to my office in china, and asked them to send 1x80mm ring and 1x95mm ring so i can test for size (i've said they can even send me faulty ones if they want).
I used the business name and made it sound pretty proper, so hopefully they'll take me seriously lol

ok, update.

I've stolen this from TCGPX :D

lol, basically i'm going to use work's office in china to organise this for us. I think it's a little more complicated than TCGPX thought :).

I've managed to talk the manufaturer to send me a free sample (i think i'm goign to pay $4AU for express postage in china, then maybe $10/20 postage from our office there to me), although i'm not sure if they r sending 1 of each ring (enough for 1 head light) or 2 of each (which means i get mine for free muwhahahah).

when i get them I will test them for size and write up a DIY, but it should all work out, and be simple as hell to do.

so that's the update.

now, I need numbers. so i can work out prices and also if it's worth pissing my boss off lol.

I'm not sure about the exact price yet, I'm guess in it's going to be around the $50 mark per set. so...

who would be interested in it, if it's $50 per set? and would you still be interested if it's $60 per set?

avaliable colours are: All cold cathode fluorescent ring lamp’s color are available, White / Blue / Red / Green / Orange / Purple / Pink / UV, etc.

1. me (would be fine if it's $60 as well)
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
.
.
.
.
.

if i get enough interest... around 20 sets, i might get a ew more sets, just so if ppl want them later on they dont have to wait for a GB again. and to raise the total to over 100 lights so we can get a better price.

colour, eh? how do they work? i'd only want a coloured version if you were able to hook them up to a switch in the car to control when they're on/off. I wouldn't want to look like a wanker 24/7, just occasionally lol

white for me

1. BorepYano (colour?)
2. noccers (White)
3. Bigpitty1 (White)
4. TCGPX (White)
5.

Brings up a good point. Couple of ways you can wire em up. Straight off the parkers or also with a "wank factor on/off" switch. Easy to do. I'm going with a switch.
I was considering red, IMO it would look mean as. But with em on your cop bait on the road and I'd like to get away with using them a bit more often
Still might change my mind yet.

1. BorepYano (since i'm ordering, i'll decide on colour later lol... maybe UV :D)
2. noccers (White)
3. Bigpitty1 (White)
4. TCGPX (White)
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.

oh and TCGPX, maybe hook it up to the fog lights, cos they r pretty much useless normally anyway lol, well that's the easiest way to have it so u can turn it on and off whenever u want.

when i get the samples i'll put them into my lights (donno how it'll look cos my lights are white but i guess i can always photo shop it lol), hopefully it'll get ppl interested and bring up the numbers :)

and yes it is $50-$60 plus Postage from QLD, which shouldn't be that much, i'm guessing about $5 if that.

Still in 2 minds about this, but since youre getting samples, Ill wait to see how they look before I decide... Watching this thread closely.

Also, I assume these are street legal, at least white ones, but what about coloured ones ? Apart from the obvious police attraction properties, I'd hate to spend $50-60 and get defected... Suppose I could always just go with white...

I very much doubt any of these would be street legal.
Police don't like any lights extra to factory.
I had an argument with regency park over driving lights on my Escort, normal everyday driving lights.
Difference is coloured ones would attract a lot more attention from them.
