Tassie - BP Ultimate

Post by Breza »

Hi All,

Just posting a quick FYI for Tassie FTO owners.

BP is going to start distributing 98 RON Ultimate from various outlets around Hobart from 21st July 2006.

Known outlets include Kingston, Huonville, Elizabeth Street and Brooker Hwy.

About bloody time we got some decent fuel down here!

This means that there is now no excuse for not having a multi-state FTO club trip down here. :-)

Cheers

Don't think sending it was the problem...........

The official line from BP was a lack of suitable storage facilities.

Now that Super and LRP have gone the way of the Tassie Tiger we now have a couple of spare tanks.

The only other option until then was to privately ship in 200 ltr barrels of Optimax through Shell. (I know somone with a 348kw ATW WRX who was doing just this)

Based on current prices it would be in the area of $1.80 - $1.90 a litre for Optimax if bought in by the 200ltr barrell.

Not worth the cost of bringing it in unless you have tuned your car for it and need maximum performance.

There was also a few barrells going a bit cheaper after Targa Tas.

I have confirmed today that it will be about $1.55 a litre.

So that would make it 5c a litre more than regular PULP.

Cheers

Because Tasmania is a lonely island you have to consider the cost of transporting the fuel to them and how many people uses it.

I don't think there's a lot of people there actually use 98 RON to fill up so the demand isnt there so not a lot of suppliers. Plus they need to sell a lot of it to make any profit.

The further away from the source you are the more you have to pay. I read in the NRMA road magazine last month that you could get petrol as little as 2 cents a litre in the middle east.

As for 100 RON, personally I can't afford it so I won't even bother driving out of my way to get it. My 3 cents
