Track Days

Post by RallyMad »

Was looking at doing some track days this year but had a nasty suprise last night.

In previous years Queenland Raceway used to do sprints on Saturday and Wednesday arvo's which only required a track licence I think (Stuart - out there buddy is this right?)

The sprints are recorded times for each class etc but are much like track days in that cars are let out for 5 lap sessions in groups.

Checking the website last night though I've found this year you need a CAMS Prov. Circuit licence or AASA club licence, view below addresses for more info:
http://www.qldraceways.com.au/Administr ... 0guide.pdf

http://www.cams.com.au/content.asp?Page ... ObjectID=1

http://australianautosportalliance.com/ ... &Itemid=52

So.....Does anyone have one of these licences and how easy hard is to obtain the AASA site doesn't seem real clear to me on what you need to get a club licence, the Licence testing for a club licence seems a little wack to me.

It's been a few years since I've held a racing licence and will be getting at least a 2NS or 2S CAMS licence to do motokhana's and autocrosses in my other car (dirt events) but I've never held a higher licence than that thus the confusion.

Anyone else around the place finding similar things?

Thought this would be a good place to share some info on obtaining licences and stuff for others as well so I'll be sure to post up what I do and please share if you have similar experiences.

Unless they've changed it it takes the same to get a CAMS 2S as it does to get a 2NS.. just some paper work sent off to cams then a wait then you get a license in the mail :)

and it expires in a year and thats about it

All we've needed in WA is a L2S license and that covers circuit racing and all motorkhana/autokhana/sprints/climbs... not sure about targa events i know the co-driver only needs an L2S.

+1 :)

CAMS 2S covers you for those sorts of things.

I'd be checking with the circuit though guys. Seems at least for these Saturday Sprint sessions that QR have changed their licence requirements.

Out of the 2 tracks up here currently opening QR is the only one that does open track days through these saturday and wednesday sprints. If you want to go on the track otherwise you have to do it through a club and hire the track etc.

whats the general process to go through to get one of these licences? I just assumed that you need to fill out some forms, maybe pay a fee & send them off as well ..

basic CAMS 2N or 2Ns licences are like that, for a Provisional licence you have to be approved for a licence by doing a observation run where an approved licence tester basically watches you and then passes or fails you I think, haven't looked into it that much myself cause I know I won't make use of it for the cost.

The AASA licence is only a club licence that QR lists as $55, sounds like a better way to go I'm just not sure of what you need to do to get one, see the link in my first post for their site. It's got licence requirements but they seem so over the top to me for a club licence (a John Bowe licence test or 6 sprints in the last year with a letter from the event director).

It's getting confusing now though cause a mate of mine up here was also interested so called QR and was told they still did their $20 track licences, but this flies in the face of what one the website, so I'm waiting for a reply to a few phone calls and still trying to find out more about a AASA club licence cause I'm interested in that too. Only thing is I won't be doing much more till May cause I've got an exam coming up, Come May I'll get into this and let everyone know what I find out.

The AASA take about 15mins and $$$ out of your pocket and you can do it @ QR 30mins before SAS
