Wakefield Park Track Day Tuesday July 31

Post by Shane001 »

OK so I've still got a shitload of work to do to the racecar before I can take it out for some testing, but I need to set myself a target.

Sadly the available dates in July are pretty thin (4 only 8O ), so targeting this Tuesday, and possibly the following Tuesday July 31 as well if needed.

This will be a test and tune day for me, I'll be in and out of the pitlane pretty much all day, so will be housing up in a garage.

Anyone who wants to tag along for the day let me know. Though like last time I'll be leaving real early to get unloaded in time for the first session so no doubt I'll meet you all down there

Also will be dependant on weather. If it's looking like rain I won't be going. Will post confirmation closer to the date.

OK, additional dates now available for July, so I may look at going down earlier, possibly the 10th (unlikely) but more likely the 17th.

I still have quite a bit of work to do including putting the rear suspension back together but I need to get down there asap as entries for the V8 SuperCar round at EC close on July 20! Prod Sports is one of 4 support categories for this event 8)

Update: Now planning to head down on Tuesday (July 10).

Very sorry for the late notice, but the engine is back together and running, and the rear suspension is almost back together, and I need to get some testing done so I can get my entry in for the V8 Supercar round at Eastern Creek in August, so if anyone can make it down on Tuesday let me know 8)

Yeah I'll be out there for a look.

Have considered entering in the past but to be honest it's not really my thing. Plus it's way over priced for the track time you get.

Update. Very unlikely I'll be going down to Wakefield on Tuesday. Just didn't get enough done this weekend. The suspension is all back together though but I need to spend some time getting the wheel alignment setup right and that's just not going to happen in time.

So I'm now planning to go down on Tuesday July 17.

Guys how hard do you drive your cars on the track?
I've never been but want to try it some day, though I am really pedantic with my car and doubt I would really push it

I flog the sh*t out of it!

But there's a big difference between driving your car hard & driving it like it's stolen. You'll never hear me crunch a gear...

Once you're into a rhythm, its quite an art form.

Do you relax on the track?
I don't mean relax relax, but do you enjoy driving, or are you worried about making a mistake that will ruin your car?
Also how much of a danger do other drivers pose on the track?

For a track day you just drive as fast as you feel comfortable. It's recommended to work your way up as you build skills and confidence.

As far as other drivers, WP is generally not that busy, and you just need to make sure you are aware of who is around you, just in case they aren't, and don't make any diving passing manoeuvres lol!

As for me, when I'm not testing something I generally try to drive as fast as I can lol! And sometimes I do crunch gears 8O

I agree with Ben and Shane  the big thing that sits in your head is that you have to drive back home after ( unless your Shane and just chuck it on the trailer lol) so you tend not to push the car to it's full potential.
I so need to get my car back up to spec as I am hanging to hit the track again :( .

I haven't taken any video in years, but I did dig this one up that Aza took.

Was at Oran Park (short circuit) way back in 2008. Was before the 6A13 upgrade, but I was running the nitrous on this day.

Watch me run down a couple of Evos 8)
