Toby, you have to take the cups out to properly secure the boot, that is if you are using cv clamps and not using cable ties, which if you are using cable ties, just quit now. You cannot do it on the car and do it properly, dont be lazy, pop the cups off with a crowbar and do it right the first time.

I had them steel tied down professionally because I didn't have the tool to tension them tight enough.

So you took the car to the shop to have the drive shafts reassembled with the CV joints still inserted in the side of the gearbox?
