doesnt look right if anything would be a chassis earth, as long as main 22 pin connected and main wire to battery should be fine unless alt stuffed, get the multimeter out and see if its putting out enough charge if all good then possible batt dropped a cell or bad connections at earth or batt terminals
With the alt in and car running getting no charge, but the red mystery wire at the back of the alt has 12.8... There's nowhere on the loom for it to go and the original alt doesn't have them... Pic incoming to compare...
Wrong alt although will most likely would of still worked. However not a good idea having live wire just hanging round. Wiuld suggest buying new one. Cheap enough and no guarantee that another used one won't fail either
Sorry I wasn't trying to come off as sarcastic, couldnt be arsed typing with one hand so I just chucked the quote up.
As said, those wires look very out of place. Personally I'd grab another alternator. Or you could rip them off and see what they're attached to. They look really odd.
I fix cars.

Can you pull that plug out at all and see if there is any wiring in the back of it?
+1
I agree the plug probably has no wires attached to it.
