Piggybacking MicroUSB to cigarette lighter?
Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone has piggybacked a MicroUSB cable to the Cigarette lighter socket? I'm looking at creating a clean USB cable that goes under the dash and out of the tweeter pods but I was wondering what the best method is to hook it up to the cigarette lighter. I don't want one of the dongles hanging out of the lighter and would prefer it hidden at the back,
Cheers

Thanks, I was looking for something like that. Do you know if the MicroUSB can be easily changed from the one they use though? (The cord I'm using it designed specifically for a Dash Mount to help secure the phone in)

This one is correct, I just need to be able to use my own cord as shown here:Sahin wrote:http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/V1NF-Car-Cha ... 3382130f60

The end of the MicroUSB has special clips for mounting into the cradle.

Isn't 3A too much for cell phone charging?

Current is drawn, voltage is supplied.
You could have 1000A, it won't matter, provided the voltage is 5V.

Get the first one Sahin posted, cut off the mini USB plug, cut the wires from your dock and splice them into where you cut off the plug and splice the other end of the adapter into the cigarrete lighter wires.
Another option is to install another cigarette lighter behind the dash and use a universal USB adapter as you would in the original socket.

I have my second lighter socket in my glove box and I run the wiring to and from the socket behind the glovebox, it still gives you easy access if you want to plug something else in.
