New some advice and price checks

Post by Brent1234 »

Hi this is my first post. I have had issues with my fto for ages just having no power etc, I took It to my old mechanic and he thought it was ignition coils after changing them and it still not being fix and it costed me 700 I thought I would get a 2nd opinion. My new mechanic did a ton of test and told me it has a blown headgasket/s which I think he said cause it has a crack from rust it doesnt over heat but it loses water fast and just is so sluggish with no power. It also has a broken engine mount, torn cv joint. So to do the gaskets which he refuses to do cause its a ton of work he said will be about 2.5k for one n if its two about 3.5k. So should I save my pennies for this amount of work or should I buy a whole new engine that way I know everything will be fully fixed. Cheers.

TL;DR Have blown gaskets should I replace or buy new engine.

Thank god you had the TL;DR there. My eye's were beginning to glaze over

Short answer: Yes. Grab another motor.

Low km units can be found at wrecker & importers from $600 - $1000 depending.

New engine. Although 3.5k is expensive... I'm getting a rebuild done and being charged $2400 for assembly with BYO parts (full gasket kit being applied and water pump, timing belt etc, not just head gaskets)

But yeah, +1 on what Bennoz said.
I fix cars.
