Cooling System...

Alright, so my cooling's a little bit retarded at the moment.

When I'm just cruising around the city for daily business etc, my temperature is fine. Needle sits dead centre or slightly over.
However, when I'm travelling at speed (highways etc) or going uphill, my needle soars to maximum, and only goes down when I put my heater on or if i slow back down to a lower speed and drive gently for a while.


What could be the cause of this and what're the likely costs associated with rectifying this problem? With summer approaching, I'd like to have my cooling well under control!

Rinse and repeat, such a short space of time, these meme has become quite useful.

No really, it would be your radiator blocked or a stuffed thermostat.
You will need to replace the culprit, you could try flushing it out but I doubt that will work.
You could change your thermostat first as it is the chaepest and if that doesn't fix it you will be up for a radiator.

How much is an FTO thermostat and where abouts is it located?

I have circled the thermostat for you.
The red arrow is where your bottom radiator hose goes to, just to make it easier for you to find.

That should be all the info I need for now, where would I be looking if i were to buy these parts? Are they specific for 6A12 motors?

Yeah, suits a Nissan of some description when I replaced mine. Although it sounds like a blocked radiator too, hopefully it doesn't need replacing!

generic part just remove completly or put current in water and bring to boil to see if opens, that will tell you if stuffed or not otherwise good old rad change, flushes dont really work that well

You can get radiators professionally cleaned for the $100 mark, they take top and bottom tanks off to do it.

For the extra id just get a new one if you're still running stock.

Alloy not always great option but certainly better than removing and replacing tanks

Its a lot bigger than standard and stretches the brackets out so u have to drill sh*t out.
