HI,
I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to change my 1996 model FTO motor to a Mivec. I am just questioning how much work would have to go into it. I really want change it because I hear they are better, but I am not sure if it is possible. I have also been trying to download a booklet on instructions to get the wiring down pack.
Thanks
Any information will help!

Yes ...
And a few members here have completed the process...
Dras is one of those successful ... Maybe check out the members ride section...
Dwayne has completed it also I think, but is definitely a good reference point for pulling these cars apart...
Also Bennoz has sh*t loads of knowledge ... Just search the forum and I am sure you will find the people who have completed...

Re: V6 1996 model to Mivec
I have almost completed a full Mivec 6A12 rebuild into a non mivec GR.
While I rebuilt my engine, you can just whack in a low km engine and save yourself the cash. Given my time again, that's what I would do.
It's basically just replacing the part of your wiring loom that goes from your ECU through the big grommet in the firewall and slapping the engine in and plugging it all up.
Then obviously you have the single pot to twin pot brake upgrade which I am also doing, that is about the only difference between the mivec and non-mivec models.

I fix cars.

Re: V6 1996 model to Mivec
If you do go ahead with this, my advice would be to pick a donor with the same transmission and same type of brakes (abs or non abs) as your car. It will make replacing the loom much easier. If this is not possible, an auto loom can be used in a manual but not vice versa, if you use an abs loom and ecu on a non abs car, the engine light on the dash will be permanently on and if you use a non abs loom on an abs car, you will lose abs functionality and may even have to swap out some of the braking gear.

+1
Didn't think of that Dras, as I haven't had to bother with anything like that
