Weird ugly mivec Sound

Post by Kashikhan55 »

oil was changed just recently so don't think it couldnt be anything to do with oil

Oils too thick, need 5W30.
Castrol Edge Sport/Titanium 5W30 is the best.

a quick search shows it just might be the mivec tappets needing a good clean apparently. after which i will flush the engine oil and put the oil recommended above by you :)

thanks
lets see if that solves the problem

Change your oil to 5W30.
It has nothing to do with your tappets.
Mivec engages with an electric solonoid which lets oil through to engage the mivec cam lobes.
Your oil is too thick and it can't get through the intraget oil channel system.
If oil change won't fix it then I would be looking at possable valve issues (caused by the oil being too thick)
So, change your oil buddy :D

Yep, nothing to do with tappets. Tappets give the distinct and annoying tick tick sound. Easy to identify when idling.

Go with a Shell Helix 10w40 or equivalent, it's a semi synthetic. If you want to front up for the extra cash and more frequent oil changes then go with a fully synthetic oil like Castrol Edge.

Just so you know though if you go from a non-synthetic oil to a fully synthetic, sometimes you will get leaks.

Use a decent oil, not magnatech etc.
I fix cars.

Yea I'm running Castrol Titanium Edge 5W-40 in mine, no trouble. Changed every 5,000km but the oil is usually $50-$80 for 5L so not cheap :/
