URGENT Help RE: shocks and springs

Post by notoriousTASH »

Hey guys.

I posted not long ago regarding part numbers for shocks. Bought ones recommended by users - KYB 341140 x2, 334154 x1 and 334155 x1.

The mechanic has started on the rears and called me to say that the rear shocks are the wrong size - the shaft is 10ml longer than the original shocks on the car. Did anybody else have this issue and what can be done about this? The mechanic said it also may have something to do with the King Springs I purchased. Part numbers for those are:
Front KMFL-93
Rear KCRL-46

Thank you in advance!

I have KYB on the rears and I have just physically checked the numbers on them and they are 341140.
I fit them myself and had no issues.
I have Tein springs though.

Alright. We tried on the rear shocks and springs and they seem to be ok. The mechanics concern was that the spring was moving when it was fitted onto the shock absorber. I asked for a second opinion at PEPS and they said it should be ok and it was. Rear is done, now starting on the front. Here's a pic

Wanted to ask now, when you guys changed the front shocks and springs if the plate on the shock that the spring sits on rubbed against your tyres? Because that's the issue I'm facing now. Need to source out new shocks as the spring plate on KYBs are 7mm too low. So many problems!

You must have fat tyres on the 17's ?
Some spacers will fix the problem.

What size tyres do you have on those 17 inch wheels. As longas the KYB's you have received are the part numbers quoted, there is nothing wrong with the shocks. the problem you are having will be due to something else you need to replace. The KYB's are the most common shock for the FTO. Half the members in the club are running them (including me). If you are getting rubbing, then they either havent been fitted correctly, or one of the other suspension components (or tyres if they are too big) needs replacing.

[edit] sorry, repeating what has been said above - they beat be to it...[/edit]

I know my tyres are low profile. I'm running Contisport contact 5's I believe. The tread on them is almost gone I think. The mechanic said today that I have wide tyres.

Sounds like your offset might be too high.

get the 7 numbers off the sidewall of the tyre to determine how lowprofile and what wheel size you have.
itll read like this > 235/45/r17

I'm afraid I'm nowhere near the car at the moment, it's at the mechanics...

I've got 17x7 sitting on 215/45. Clearance is fine. Just by looking at your wheels id say the tyre profile is too big or as dwayne said, your offset is not right.
