possible top engine mount goinggg

Post by Fulltiltorgasm »

Been gettin the occasional clunk when going over the occasional bumps, only noticed it after tyres where getting down to 32 psi, put em back up to 36 and just happen to notice the occasional clunk. Springs & shocks done about 60,000 2 years old, so i would image its not a suspension issue, but am taking it to pedders (rip merchants) just to get the 20 somethign points test, just to make sure no issue and elimnate that. im thinking its the top mount as other ones have been replaced recently and its prob orig and looking slighty worn. any other thoughts on what it could be ? also getting very slight vibrations thru car. if it is the top mount are they readily available ? thanks

Pedders are shitfucks. Do you get the clunk if you drive slowly over say a bump? I have a feeling they are the drop links. Easy to change.

Yeah, doesnt do it every bump, but I did drive over 2 speeds bumps at slow speed and yes small clunk each time. still does occasionally at higher speeds aswell. Yeah pedders are riip merchants just want them to have a look at see if they can pinpoint the clunk for me.

And they will also scare you to think that if you take the car out of their shop, it will just break apart in pieces and then implode into a worm hole. Once you are sucked in and agree to the job for $3k, they will open everything in your car....and then tell you they found more stuff broken and it's going to cost you $6k total, if you negotiate, they will bring the price down to $5.5k. After getting everything fixed, if you drive down to another Pedders near you for the 20 point check, they will tell you everything in your suspension is broken again.

True story.

Oh and you can take your wheel off and see if the drop link heads are attached in funny angles to the sway bars...if you can move those heads around with your hand, your drop links are rooted. Pretty common part to go as part of wear and tear.

ok so noise was right hand bush goneskis on sway bar, left isnt far behind either, so basically all joints/bushes are getting on aswell, none of these have been replaced in over 100,000 so thats quite legitimate. is it hard to get the sway bar bushes ? also as there is no bush there anymore im guessing its not the best idea to drive it until its replaced?

other thing they said was the bump stops on suspension were smashed all round ? are these a serious asap kind of repair needed ?

Sway bar bushes ^

Nope bump stops aren't anything urgent, unless ya doin jumps n sh*t
But if they're smashed to crap, then it might mean shocks are rooted.
