Mivec Cylinder Head Removal

Post by Nacho »

Rebuilt a GR engine in the past and cylinder head was piss easy to remove. Cracked open a Mivec head and there's a bit more clutter blocking the cylinder head bolts. The work I gotta do is on the bottom end so would prefer not to dismantle the top end. Eg. cams, valves, etc.

Anyone removed head before without taking it apart? Any tips or tricks to it?

You need to remove the cams. Then you will be able to access the head bolts.

Turns out the whole top section comes off so I don't have to take everything apart. I should have been more specific.

And now I can get to the head bolts so the wizard can rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried.

Hypothetically if the head pops off while it's still inside, does the shaft stay hard and rigid?
