Down on power, stalling, weird sh*t

Post by Daniel2019 »

Check engine light on intermittently (mostly on) and its down on power.. sometimes kicks in to full power at random times and engine light goes off. we replaced the stepper motor and adjusted the idle. it seems like it is OK when its revved a bit more and given full throttle..

Basically I drove to rock_its (from Botany to Sutherland) fine (until I was 100m away from Craig's - it stalled in neutral at the lights)

We replaced stepper at his, seems to be OK. I revved it up a little bit and it dropped straight down to 0 and turned off on its way back down from about 3k.

We figured electrical problem as my battery is sh*tty and voltmeter is at about 12 volts (Bobby's @ 13+)

So started to drive it home, got 100m down the road, it stalled while changing gears (not me lol, stalled with clutch in and turned back on when I let go of the clutch but kept going)

Another few hundred meters down the road it had engine light on, about 1/3 power so I pulled over and Craig came to help. While waiting I turned it on a few times, each time turned straight on then off again so when Craig got there we turned up the idle and seemed OK @ about 750rpm.

Then engine light stayed on, down on power usually (sometimes randomly got power - screeched the tyres a few times while power kicked in while taking off)

Seems to be OK at around 3,500rpm + but dunno if thats just by chance (still haven't taken it past 4)

Any ideas guys?

Also yeah I know I need to check codes, will do that when I get a chance, just wondering if anyone has had similar/same issue.

If Voltmeter is at 12V while the engine is running, I'd be looking at your alternator.

It doesn't sound like a bad batch of fuel, I've had stalling issues with bad fuel in the past.
Caveat: I've got a lightened flywheel so I'm more susceptible stalling if the car isn't idling properly.

But yeah check codes.

Cluster ...

But yeah, we need to DMM to ensure your volt gauge is accurate.. Cause it could have shifted when the aftermarket faces were put on. Like how I had to adjust Smurf...

But it does seem suspicious.. Sitting in the garage on idle for ages fine... Then drives out... Bam ... Maybe the car just doesn't like being in the Shire.. Cause that is when the problems started..

But don't worry, new place is in Panania ... So your car should be fine to visit.. :)
I just had to add it ......

Done a little research and I am now 99.99999% sure it is in fact the TPS.
FTO-IrelandForum wrote:A faulty TPS is usually noticible in that it can mimic problems caused by a faulty stepper motor, the main difference is the car can cut out / idle badly when warm.
That is exactly what is happening. I will have a proper look on Saturday, check my codes and swap out TPS for a spare one I have on Sat morning.

Mmk so still having issues when hot.

Have adjusted TPS, replaced dodgy lead (when it was firing on 5 yesterday at Fraz's.. random?)

Still doing weird sh*t... getting a multimeter when I can do adjust TPS to exact spec but aside from that, the only other thing I can think of would be coil packs shitting themselves..

Anyone else have any suggestions?

(Also, engine light is gone)

Yep... didn't show any, just constant blink

Although I am 99.9% sure that the code was for TPS (the plastic inside was shattered and spring fell straight out when I took the TPS off the throttle body) and I replaced it with a spare.

Nup, idles fine when cold, warm, hot, but engine starts to sh*t itself after being on for 15 minutes or so.

O2 sensor would only f**k around after running for 15-20 mins?

Shhtuart do you stock them or should I find one elsewhere?
