Help!

Post by FTO-Love-Affair »

So today I put more oil in the FTO and topped up with a 500ml bottle of the stuff that stops the engine from using too much oil, as it loves oil. Almost straight after I washed the car and decreased the engine. I noticed driving back to home the car had a bit of what seemed like a misfire and hardly any power. When I pulled up my grandmother noticed what looked like smoke coming from the engine, but I think it was more steam from cleaning the car burning off the exhaust, and toward the end of the trip it stopped misfiring. Have I fucked something?

Your engine shouldn't be really "using oil" at any significantly noticeable or inconvenient rate..

Is it leaking out of anywhere or just burning heaps of oil?

It burns a fair amount, and I know there are leaks, my mechanic knows about it, the last lot of oil I put in it was a 20-50 in the hope the oil would last longer, and it did. I understand the previous owners treated it harshly and I've had a lot of things repaired and replaced. It runs better now then when I bought it. I'll take it for a bit of a drive tonight and see what happens, hopefully it was temporary...

Personally I wouldn't be using a thicker oil to mask leaks.

Your oil is recommended at a 10w40 for a reason.

Find your leaks, fix them, and move on from there.

Yeah happens when you don't wash degreaser off properly or dry your engine bay completely before driving.

I'd be more worried about the misfiring and stuff, and I would also switch back to a standard 10w40 oil and fix your leaks.

You got a heap of water in your spark plug holes causing the spark to short to the engine block. I have done it before.
Should have not sprayed the top of the rocker cover with a hose.
Should have taken out you leads/coils and cleaned out the water.

Anyway...Sounds like the water evaporated giving you back your power.
