How to get a driveshaft nut out which is cross threaded

Post by shadowarrior »

As topic. Nut keeps spinning there... tried hammering a flathead behind it so that i can put some pressure to snap it back on a groove but no go.
Any tips?

Could cold chisel it if you had a big enough chisel.

Rotary hammer drill. I use mine when I get frustrated never fails haha. Definitely get through the nut on the hammer setting.

Drilled down between the castelations with a 1/8 bit parallel with shaft. Split with chisel. Really soft nut, really surprised it didn't split with just a chisel. Over torque I recon :s

Thanks for the help Bob :)

Now the CV joint is stuck to the shaft...it won't pop out..have already broken a hammer, gone through all sizes of hammer, including a sledge. I can feel the CV moving on the snap ring and see the start of the splines, but it won't budge beyond that. Won't come out, won't go in anymore either.

Bob and I tried hammering it out yesterday, no go. Off to a CV shop today I guess.

lol :P
I even gave it few whacks after I got back home. No go :)
It's with the CV shop now. The guy sighed and I could see a sense of relief on his face when I said "Don't worry, I won't be using that CV, just get me that shaft out" :P
