Redlined it? These cars have a limiter so it wouldn't have gone past that.

Hey guys. Sorry I'll explain a little better. It went to 8500rpm, I heard a noise. Then it stalled. Now it starts but misfires at idle. It's random. Plugs, could and belt are all new. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Could a worn or broken lash adjuster do this?

Could be anything man. Last time I got misfiring was when I didn't plug my map sensor back in after changing the spark plugs. Check you haven't blown a vacuum line off anywhere.

Was the car warmed up and driven for at least 20 mins? Or still cold?

Wont hit mivec or rev higher than 6,000 unless at operating temp. Check error codes.

Check coils and leads, check vacuum lines.. could be heaps of things including timing belt slipping.

Anyone else got ideas?

Ive done it bent and snapped the same valve although it sounded like a quad rotor and would still hit mivec if that helps
gotta get there one day :)

Ouch...

Although 8,500 is too high to rev.. there's a redline for a reason

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. I'll pull the coils off and replace with a spare set I have. Also will check timing. If all else fails heads come off. How do I check for error codes? Obd1?

Nah, just see here -

To be honest, since it happened right after you took it to 8,500, my money is on a bent or fucked valve. Time for a rebuild or engine swap I reckon, although I hope we are wrong.
