Loud Rattling in suspension :?

Post by Earthbornseven »

On some road surfaces (rough and old roads), there seems to be a loud rattling/banning noise in the front left quarter of the car, it is perfectly fine on smooth flat roads, it has been slowly getting louder over the last few weeks and is now to the point where people in over cars near me are now able to hear it :?
I cant visibly see anything out of place or loose that could be causing the noise.

I might be able to get a recording of the sound if that might help.

Any ideas on things to check?

*Edit, it also happens but not limited to when the steering wheel twitches due to potholes and such.

Brake pads can make a real racket (tinny rattle) if the little clips are missing or not installed properly, What sort of noise are we talking (high pitched, low pitched, rattle, clunk etc)

Ill have a look at the brakes tomorrow but i do think it is in the suspension system, it is like a low pitched repetitive banging (Its hard to describe), it happens when there is a pothole or a disturbance in the road, but i cant for the life of me recreate the sound when its jacked up on stands :?

Ill go for a drive tomorrow and try to get some audio of it.

Need a clean, but all seem to be alright from what i could see, ill give them a closer inspection tomorrow.

Could it possibly be the sway bar bushes? It looks like it has been rubbing quite a bit, or is this normal?, I don't know much about suspension

Could this be the source of the noise?

Yep. Preferably all 4 at a time if you are able to, if not at least a pair. Best not to do them in singles if you can avoid it.
