What is this?

So I looked in my foot well today and found a black spongy carpet material running up along the fire wall.I have a Gp Version R which is supposed to not have any sound deadening but it sure looks like sound deadening. Can any one please confirm, I'm a bit of a noob and am not sure if its normal.

Looks like some form of sound deadening...

Yeah, thats normal. Mine has that as well. Version R has less sound deadening under the carpet.

    Also noticed this.
    Rubberised matte looking stuff within the wheel well as well as under the car. is this normal?

    Yep.. Cause if just normal paint, will chip and rust.. It is normal.. I think you can buy cans of it.. Called stone guard..

    I also think Mattt did re-did his car with the stuff..
    I just had to add it ......
