Want to put my factory HIDS back but how?

Post by Rob Furniss »

My facelift factory HID lights were butchered probably when the compliance was done but I want to put them back, what do I need?
Some new HID bulbs and connectors?

And is there any way for me to test the ballasts to make sure it's worth doing in the first place without frying myself?

According to the ADRs as it was a factory option they shouldn't have been messed with (from what i'm gathering).

Wrong. Mine got butchered as well. As FTO's do not have self levelling lights, HIDS not allowed. Funnily, was not covered bythe earlier ADRs (previous scheme), so if you got complied in the first batch, your HIDS were allowed to stay.

I thought the self levelling and cleaning was only if the output is over 2000 lumens, mine are about 10 lumens at the moment, can't see a damn thing lol!
Joking aside though i'm wondering if they could tested the lumens of them on import they would have been under this 2000 and then left them alone.

Maybe I should concentrate on getting what i've got working better, had a go at adjusting them last night and they were all over the place pointing right and at the ground.
They are a bit better now but still need a bit more messing with, there are two plates either side of the bulb (in front and behind) as the bulb is smaller than what it's going into and would fall through into the globe and I don't think it's seating right.
I need to do more time sanding and polishing too with some finer paper as I can see sand paper marks from when I got the lacquer off.

Just been reading the ADR's and man this blew my head off, will definitely stick with what i've got.

Yep, was either complied during the previous scheme or was complied by a dodgy operator. Had a friend that used to be in the industry. As they never audited all compliances, the paperwork got filled out but the work never got done.

Yep restraints and a pink sticker were the only marks left on mine. Complied in January 2012
