Is my fto too loud?

Post by JacksonChater »

Okay so my fto is going through it's noise test soon and I'm worried it won't pass with the 3" super cat exhaust on it, would it be wise to swap it with a standard orr?
My dad says it shouldn't be a worry but what does he know

I would attach an image but my phone takes too HD a picturw to upload

Standard exhaust is 89dB so 99.999% chance it will fail.

Really? I have a silly friend who attached a cannon to his v6 commy and it passed the noise check at 96db. So I'm assuming the fto is a tad louder than a Holden haha
Ugh how much would it cost to put a standard pipe back on it?

Isn't the limit 90dB?

I have a full system minus extractors you can have for fifty bucks if you come pick it up. Tips are dented and bent but should get you out of trouble. Located 2035.

That was meant to say 86db..

Pretty sure they hit it at 3200rpm for a v6 made before 1995. I've revved it to 3200 and it doesn't sound all that loud but I have no idea how loud 90db should be

Just take it for inspection and see what happens.

If it ends up being too loud or something else is wrong in the inspection, then spend some cash and change/fix it.

If it passes then you are good to go.

So the fto went through the noise test today and cme through at 88db ahahha

I was 120% sure it wouldn't pass. Either the guy did the testing wrong, he was cool and let it pass or he just loved the sound so much he instantly passed it

Or it came through as a 88db reading which is therefore a pass because it's under 90db which is the legal limit.

I got done ages ago. Roadside test my car was louder during lift off. I was under the limit while revving. They rev to 75% of your max rpm. Think it was 6250rpm they tested at.

I got 89 db with everything back to stock. So if ya have anything but stock it's probably illegal!
