Neeeeed Help !!!!

Post by destinationtoby »

Allrighty I'm all out of ideas and I need this car out of my fkn garage

I'm really dumb with anything electrical, so I don't know sh*t, but can follow instructions...

I'll describe the problem best I can.

The new engine is installed, I've plugged all the wires and plugs back into the right places the best I can..

I turn the key and everything lights up, I hear a buzzing sound coming from the stepper motor area & and another sound from the engine bay fuse box area. I then go to start it, but there's no crank at all, doesn't even slightly turn over. Just nothing.

The battery light stays on and dims, within a minute I can hardly see them and the battery is dead flat.
Have tried a few different batteries, it does the same thing to all of them.

First question is what sensors or plugs that I could of put on wrong or missed, could cause the car not to start?
What fuses could cause this?
Basically what are all the possible reasons the starter motor won't crank??
What's draining the power ?
I've hooked jumper leads direct from a running car to the battery and still no crank..

Have replaced the starter motor. & the alternator is brand new from camskill.

There's two similar looking plugs on your loom that can be plugged into the wrong place. Try swapping them. Can't remember which ones they are off the top of my head
I fix cars.

That would be the IFS & TPS.
The IFS is down near the thermostat housing and the TPS is on the throttle body.

Also check you have conected the starter motor wires the correct way around and check your body earth connections

I just thought what your problem might be.
Did you install the engine to the transmission?
Can you turn the engine over with a socket and bar from the harmonic balancer?
If you can't, then you haven't engaged the engine to the transmission correctly.
If it's auto then you haven't engaged the torque converter into the transmission correctly

Is it the same plug as the TPS

Yes they look identical. And yes the harmonic balancer turns with a breaker bar. It's has to be something electrical

Tried a known good battery? As in just pulled out of a car that was running?

Multiple batteries going dead flat after a minute won't happen. Even if you're cranking the car for a full minute it wont go dead flat.

Starting circuit does not go through the ECU, so it won't be anything sensor related. If it was a sensor it would still crank just not fire.

Yep went through 3 good batteries.
Is there ment to be an earth to the alternator ?
And that's good to know Rob, cheers. So that rules out any sensors.
Has to be possibly
Bad earth? , fried ecu?or a Broken starter which I will bench test again tommorow.
Any other possibilities ? Is there any fuses or relays that could be Broken that would stop power getting to the starter?

This is a piece of wiring loom that came attached to the new engine.
image.jpg

This is my loom and it has the same 3 plugs plus an extra one and some cut wires that the other loom doesn't have at all. I cant find anything that plugs into it, or any wires that join on.. Does anyone know what it is or why one had it and one didn't...

:facepalm2:

Do you even label?

You have 2 sections of loom the same because on 2nd hand motors, they don't bother stripping that bit out, because it requires the intake manifold to come off.

That bit of loom & those 3 plugs are the crank angle, cam angle & left mivec solenoid plugs, also has air control valve & alternator further along. It's easiest to remove the loom still attached to the car that matches that, then connect the one attached to the engine, where you disconnect your old loom. Otherwise you gotta pull the intake manifold off to strip off out the one attached to the motor.

Wut  it was cut , and the pugs were all damaged and sh*t, there's no way I was using the piece of loom that came with the new engine.
And yes I know they are the same section lol but mine has extra plugs in the space that the other one doesn't

In the last photo u can see it only has the 3 plugs that I'm holding and the 3 at the other end.
The second photo it has the same 6 plugs plus two more that I'm holding, which are non existent on the old loom,
