Aircon ticking and leaking
When i turn my ignition the aircon ticks for about 20 secounds.... I know its my aircon cause if i turn it off and turn it back on and switch it from cold/heat it ticks again.... Also under the dash on the passenger side there is a leak, I suspect its the aircon aswell, here is a photo
THe leak is coming from inbetween the black and the white plastic, its going through a material that seems like its meant to be a seal.

Pretty sure there's a little motor in there that you will find will have stripped teeth, and you'll need to replace that.
If memory serves me right, it's the one that changes from re-circulation to outside air.

well the aircon works fine even with the ticking noise at startup, but im worried about the water leak if anything it wouldnt be smart to leave it would it?

Re: Aircon ticking and leaking
Water leak will most likely be a leaking heater core, you can bridge the pipes in the engine bay. But to fix it properly, you will need a new heater core

Could also just be condensation from the air con if it only happens when air con running and the tube going through the firewall is damaged/blocked.

If it ONLY happens when air con has been running, it'll be that. If it happens when air con hasn't been used then it'll be Hester core.

Does it have the little bent black dick bit sticking out of the firewall around that area? If not you'll need to get one as it will just drip inside. Also if you move the vent to outside air it will stop ticking. If it does it's just the little motor

Re: Aircon ticking and leaking
Had the aircon off, was still leaking. Although even when its off it still has air coming through.... so im not sure its really offVectose wrote:If it ONLY happens when air con has been running, it'll be that. If it happens when air con hasn't been used then it'll be Hester core.
not sure why it would be the heatercore, haven't even used the heater

The heater core still has coolant flowing through it.

Re: Aircon ticking and leaking
Yep, the ticking is the solenoid they are referring to above. It strips cogs and starts makingthat sound.Common issue. Cant remember which solenoid it is though. Someone else will know

Re: Aircon ticking and leaking
I would never use any sort of stop leak on a car I am planning to keep for any period of time. Often causes more problems.
Best thing to do if the heater core is leaking and you cant be stuffed replacing it is to bypass it.
If you have coolant in the engine and what is dripping is clear then it is not the heater core.
