If you call winning the 2017 Melbourne Grand Prix "for no reason"...
evo-gsr wrote:Ummm..ok then.
Not really sure if jacking up the rear of the car, messing around underneath it, getting fuel everywhere and having to dispose of contaminated fuel (since it would at best go into a bucket or something similar to catch it), storing the fuel then disposing of it in an environmentally friendly way is easier than undoing 3X 8mm bolts for the fuel sender and neatly pumping out fuel into a jerry can without contaminating the fuel and leaving it usable for a daily driver...

If you can't appreciate the prioritization logic of others then at least appreciate the limitations of your own

Perhaps you are reading into it incorrectly if you consider a response as to why I opted for one way of pumping the fuel out over another a "carry on".

You may feel your comment carried no subtext and maybe it didn't however hopefully you can see why myself (and possibly Sahin) have misconstrued it.

Anyway, I don't want to argue over spilled milk.
Basically draining the fuel by removing the drain bolt (if there is one) was not how I wanted to go ahead with this and there may be people who disagree as to what the easier option is but they were not the ones who had to do it.

What?

Would've been much easier to use the drain plug.

Jacking a car up takes 2 minutes. Undo the single plug, drain into a clean container. Job done.

Or pull fuel line, power to fuel pump, fuel into container in engine bay. Done.
I fix cars.

In fact I did it on one of my cars last weekend. Longest part was waiting for the fuel to come out of the plug hole..

I originally wanted to just trigger the pump but the car has no battery etc plus I knew that the pump would still leave fuel behind.

Anyway for anyone doing this in the future the point is there are multiple ways to get around this and choose whichever suits you most.

My way of thinking also....but..each to their own hey
Could have even used the fuel in the mower or whipper snipper if it was that important to save the fuel.

Wow anyway moving on.......so Spetz the hand pump works fine then? Was it able to pick up the crud? Reason I was thinking of doing it was to pick up any contaminated fuel (water, dirt and rust mix).

I did try the hose in the mouth method but nearly suffocated. Turns out I'm bad at giving blowies

I had a look in my tank and there wasn't really any crud there so cleaning it up wasn't a priority.

If you do have crud down there then no the hand pump method will not work to "vacuum" it up.

I looked at those drill pumps (you can get them on eBay that are fuel safe) but as Vectose mentioned I was a bit worried of sparks etc.

If you have lots of debris and crud in the tank then I suggest dropping the tank and using something like diesel fuel to rinse it.

Yeah fair enough. I figured if I can empty most of the tank with a handjob then leave it open to dry out completely I can then get a brush in there and do a small scrub and vacuum. I'll do it eventually if I can be f*cked

These are the best drills from Aldi: http://www.msn.com/en-ca/video/topvideo ... vi-BBuQ5a2

The fuel sender opening in my Lancer was quite small and definitely not big enough to clean the tank by hand with.
I'd expect the same in the FTO
