Troubleshooting Code 41: injection system

Post by Technikhaus »

Right, so as some know, I did an engine swap in my FTO earlier this year, just from a MIVEC motor to another MIVEC, so nothing fancy. The replacement motor had been sitting for I don't know how many years (Mike might know, but not here?).

I got the motor in with the rocker cover seals etc done, timing done, new water pump etc. We got it in and had issues getting it to run. Turns out I had the timing out 3 teeth advanced.
Once that was fixed and confirmed on spot, we got it running fine.
The issue is this, it is massively down on power, just no torque, nothing.
The engine seems to be smooth, but the exhaust just sounds a little odd.
The car has aftermarket headers, and the exhaust is 2.5" straight through, one small bullet resonator in the middle, then it splits out into two tips, each with a small bullet resonator.

It's had multiple random people on the street ask me if it's a V8 due to the sound, the below clip kind of shows that sound.

If I leave the car to idle for more than 10 seconds or so it throws a CEL.

Things I've done/checked:
Checked error codes, Code 41: injection system appears
Coil packs have been swapped out with a spare set
leads have been swapped out with a spare set
Brand new fuel filter
Timing has been checked
Replaced air filter
Run through some injector cleaner.

I've been thinking of:
removing the injectors and getting them tested.
Running a compression test? (But the injection error makes me think otherwise)

Any suggestions on things to check/test/replace?

Injectors would be my first guess.

1 Tooth out on the rear bank? I know you've checked it already but get those top cam covers off and take another squiz.

Or have a go at this if you haven't already
