Broken Bonnet Hinge

Post by Deeps »

Hey All

Long time member but haven't been online fior a while.

Looking for some help, advice, guidance please.

I have a problem with one of the hinges on my FTO's bonnet..

A while ago, when the car was serviced my mechanic noticed that part of the hinge had locked up (possibly through rust, etc), and this was causing the metal to slightly bend when he opened the bonnet.

I asked him to fix the issue but he would not attempt to fix it as he said he will only fix mechanical issues.

I thought I would address it a couple of weeks later but completely forgot about it.

Yesterday I attempted to open the bonnet to jump start my battery as it had died while I was on an extended holiday for months.

Too my surprise, when I lifted the bonnet the hinge actually snapped!

I was hoping this is something you can help me with.

Easy to find a replacement from a used fto and fix myself? Or does this need to go to smash repairs?

Should this post also be posted on a different section of the forums?

Get one from “Dstocks” on here they’re 4 bolts to replace, two on the bonnet and two on the brackets to firewall side. No big reallignment job on reassembly either

I may have spares as well.

Also, find a new mechanic.
