It's a hell of a lot, and that's not including what he already forked out on turbos and up/down pipes etc before blowing it up (forcing his hand with the rebuild).
Due to the power target and mods he's also going to have to (or been strongly advised) switch from an emanage blue to a Haltech which will be another couple of K.

Modest power increase for a lot less cash (supercharger/small turbo on stock engine) wins the day for me, but it's not my build and I have to give him credit for seeing this through and trying to get what he can out of it.

I'm curious to see how close the final figure will be to fto007, because it's a lot less money than he spent (even though it's lots for an FTO).

Not everything is relative to the value of Evos

Apparently north of $100k, though I forget what portion of that was spent exclusively on engine work.

nvm, found the carsales ad, it was over $50k. Similar shopping list though. https://carsales.mobi/cars/details/1998 ... AD-2543917

Engine going in, slowly.

Anyone know about the flywheel washer plate thing? we're doing a manual conversion at the same time and fitting a Fidanza flywheel, I presume we need to fit this plate between the flywheel and flywheel bolts?

Vernier cam gears, i'm not touching those.

Engine is in, also new lightweight flywheel, clutch and manual gearbox.
Still lots to put back though, it's far from finished.

Update on this - car started but was leaking exhaust gases in the engine (and fuel as it was over-fuelling massively) out of the back of the Turbo, not RPW's fault as they didn't do any Turbo / exhaust work on the car a local guy did that and the flange that he welded onto the exhaust exit pipe was shockingly bad.
And also since he converted it to manual after the exhaust work for the turbo was done we found that the gear selector cables didn't really want to fit.
Anyway we've moved from Broome back to Perth and transported the car down and have it in my garage, been working on re-routing the exhaust feed to the turbo to move the turbo from where it was as quite frankly it was a real fire hazard (plus gear selector issue, they were touching).

He's also now moved onto a different turbo and gone down a size - not sure exactly what it is but it's a precision turbo from the US and is a little smaller, it's rated for about 600 hp I think he said, not that it means much to me. (Precision 6169)

Almost finished the pipework welding feeding the turbo and then we're onto the exit which just needs a bit of work too, and then we have some wires to move. My Dad is over on hols so he's been doing the welding and other stuff (77 years young) so we have 3 generations working on this car.

We think the over-fuelling was due to old fuel that had been sat in the tank for 8 or 9 months and most likely absorbed a lot of water (humid up in Broome) as when we drained it and put fresh fuel in it was a lot better, and no more white smoke out the exhaust too.
Thing is so much has changed on the engine that it's hard to say / was hard to diagnose as it's lower compression plus different cams and vernier cam gears, slight head work too but fingers crossed this was the issue.

Not finished yet but the smaller turbo fits better (more clearance) and makes more sense, and the rerouted exhaust pipes are better now that they aren't touching the gear selectors and further away from the wiring. He's got a shielding blanket thing to go over the main loom too.

Man, the smaller turbos still looks pretty big haha. Doesn't look like much spade for a filter one the end of that!

Room for a sock.

He's managed to get a 90 degree on I think and having filter lower.

Yeah it's still a beast of a turbo, going to be a while before it's 100% done.

Should be real interesting to see once it's done
Where abouts in Perth have you moved to?

Yeah about an hour from you I bet.
He's just driven it to an exhaust shop to get the wastegate bit done, drove ok on the way there he said but he took it real steady.

Rob - if the car is running rich (and I reckon it is a little, maybe due to an exhaust leak) would that cause it to sound rough due to crap combustion?
Running in oil - that won't cause it to sound rough will it?
I need to get a video up don't I.
