BJK's 6A13TT FTO

A wise man once said:

The plan didn't work but he had the right idea.

My tentative budget is $10k, and I think (hope) the final figure will end up being pretty close. That's based on what I've spent thus far, and what I've been quoted for installation, fabrication, and everything else to take the pile of parts that have been accumulating in the corner of my room and fashion them into a functioning conversion.

Here's the current list of acquisitions and prices (updating gradually):

Exedy HD clutch - $360
6A13 engine & ecu - $650
Spare turbos - $450
Timing kit - $300
Gaskets & seals - $300
Protex water pump - $55
Hydraulic lifters - $242
Denso VK22 spark plugs - $100
Wiring loom - $100
Walbro 255 fuel pump - $85
Drive belts - $68
Oil filter - $17
Brake fittings - $77
Intercooler - $273
Fuel rail adapter - $9
Evo 8MR BOV - $157
MAF - $80
GR rocker cover - $70
Mamba tee for oil pressure - $40
Boost gauge fitting - $12
Gauges - $300
Battery box - $33
HEL braided brake lines - $117
Top Gun ignition leads - $104
Brake hard line - $32
Evo 6 steering rack - $275
Steering reco - $465
Alternator loom - $70
Ceramic coat - $500
Trans & brake fluid - $111
Engine oil (12L) - $74
Coolant & P/S fluid - $24
Gasket maker - $22
Driveshaft seals - $38
Vacuum line - $20
Turbo oil return pipe gaskets - $15
Turbo compressor cover gasket - $6
Misc for P/S res - $23
Wiring & spades for gauges - $24
P/S hose for rack - $30
Washers and bolts for rack, spacers, wastegate - $10
Extend actuator rod - $10

TOTAL: $5748

The pile as of today:

After abusing my bank account for the better part of a year I'm almost ready to pull the trigger. Just waiting on the gauges from the US, flanges for the custom dumps and a few other bits'n'bobs to arrive via VecTec, for Driven Motorsport to have a spot in the workshop whereby they won't have to shuffle the car around for a few weeks, and probably to get a Statement of Requirements from the DPTI via an engineer to pave the way for making it legally compliant.

Watch this space to see a nugget turn into a slightly faster nugget.

Gonna dump all the pics on flickr here: Image

Exciting times, $157 for a genuine BOV though, seems so exxy for what it is... Should've gone after market :D

Yeah, few things could've been done differently across the board. But the VR4 guys upgrade to them (probably irrelevant with custom pipework, but that was my rationale anyway), and it's good ol' OEM quality.

Should probably include what I paid for the Exedy HD clutch up there, but if you skip the spare turbos the end amount is probably similar lol.

I plan on being at Bonfire 2018 with it, so it has to make it halfway across the country and back!
Feel like the turbo'd ones will start outnumbering the N/A ones soon enough.

To be fair, that included postage. (and rendered an otherwise kinda usable engine kinda useless, though it was already missing bits)

WELL. As aforementioned it was going to be Driven Motorsport (up the other end of the city from me, but they've had a considerable number of VR4/Mitsu guys through there and their word of mouth reputation is pretty good), and then fuckn Vectose messages me last night and throws my plans into confusion by offering to fly down and essentially do 90% of the work. He funds his increasingly outrageous projects, I save money, etc etc. That's the theory anyway.

So now we have to figure out if it's worth him coming down or not. Driven's initial quote was ~$6700, down to about $5500 if I were to lock it in for a month. That was with custom dumps and y-pipe in stainless. Would cost 40% or so less in mild, but add a bit for what I want to get HPC coated, and a couple other labor items, and it'd be a similar final price.

Also considering having the bay resprayed while everything is out... one thing after the other.

Yeah, figured if I started early and was as prepared as possible it'd make things go considerably smoother once it came time to actually put it together.

One week to go :bounce:

Did some simple sh*t that took ages. Got the manifolds and turbo exhaust housings off.

Took them down to get HPC coated this morning. $570 for ciloxide matte black at Ceramic Coat Australia (part of Pacemaker Headers), including the front dump cause it was cheap even if I don't end up using it. Just squeezing it in with enough time hopefully. :silent:

Will also be picking up the reconditioned Evo 6 steering rack tomorrow, that itself was $465.
