Yeh but he's the only guy with experience in this area... The work I need done at the moment isnt that much... But will be spending more later... (Dont earn as much these days)

This wastegate is a fuckin mystery...

I'm going to do as much work as I can before I take it there... Gonna do all the plugs and oil and clean out the injectors.

Oh and I'm also having suspicions that the 390cc injectors I got 4 years ago might only be 210cc or something... So i'm getting the part numbers checked.

grr..

Oh and Ben, how hard was the install of your bosch coil packs???

Possibility of mine being about crapped out... $390 each new. 8O ..

So thinking going the individual bosch units with the Microtech

Oh and I've been speaking to my engine builder (David from RPW).

Said he highly reccomends some spark plugs he uses in his Magna (500hp atw).

NGK: pfr6J-11

Said they're great for turbo applications...

Priced at $25.50 ea. at bursons though... eeep...

Will give them a go, he reckons that they last 50,000kms in his beast and never blow out..

Will give em a go. but at $152.50 for a set... they're not cheap.

If they're Mitsi Injectors, they have a CDHxxx code embossed on the side of them, Ie CDH390 etc. I did a full VR4-FTO injector comparison here: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=15644&start=580

Physically, not so hard, but all the bits & peices that go with them added up a bit. Coil Packs themselves were about $70 each, the ignitors I got from Haltech were almost $100 each & the leads were hand made to suit the lengths from each pack (Top Gun) cost me $250. Then its just a matter of getting the wiring right (firing order 1,2,3,4,5,6) with cylinders being numbererd:

back of engine
1-3-5
2-4-6
front of engine

Took us fkn days to get that right

Engine builder just advised me to stick to the stock FTO waste spark system... he reckons they are good for 500hp+ and are super reliable....

might just grab a set of second hand ones.. just to test out

Tell him thats crap, I was getting blow out from 180atwkws onwards.... and thats with my tiny little turbos. Hence we used the Bosche packs, stock setup couldn't handle it. Plus if you ever wanna get it through emissions testing, the wasted spark setup (batch fire) makes it real difficult. Have to go for sequential fire.

Yeh i found the same on mine... kept getting blow out at 190kw... thought it must have been crapped out coil packs...

might make the upgrade to bosch units then...

I think an X6 ignition controller for my microtech is about $150...

So that plus 6x $70 for the coils.. should be about $570 ish...

Will just have to get the leads then..

Got any pics of how yours are setup ben?

Here's a pic you can see them in, 3 x packs up on the bulkhead - they take care of the rear 3 cylinders, 3 x packs on the far right of screen that take care of the front 3 cylinders (sorta mounted near where the old CAI setup comes through the chassis rail.

Okay, heres a quick update...

Installed the new Turbosmart UltraGate yesterday arvo after work (My car is stuck at my work till she's in good enough nick to get to the mechanics)

I also found a the cause of a lot of my issues. One of the T-Pieces I was using in the vacuum lines had crap in it, so was blocking any vacuum getting to the FPR, Boost sensor, ECU, Boost controller, Wastegate and BOV.

Needless to say, the second I put a new T-piece in, it no longer had any smoke, it idles perfectly and sounds a million times better!

Although the other problem of the wastegate staying open is still happening!!! Although I'm becoming worried it might be a hole in one of the rear pipes venting exhaust. I certainly hope not. I will start it again this arvo and put my hand down to the end of the screamer pipe and see if i can feel exhaust (before it gets hot of course).

Also, its not building boost... It drives fine and starts spooling but then it hits 0psi and coughs and splutters...

I'm thinking it could be a silicone join or something thats splitting at the engine twists or blowing off when vacuum is lost.

But at least its just these two things...

Hopefully it wont take much more to get it finished...

If the wastegate is jammed open, then of course you wont have boost. Thats what the wates gate does, releives boost.

Have a look on the turbo itself where the wastegate actuator arm is, is it bent? Is something in the way that stopping it from retracting fully?

External Wastegate dont forget ben...

Still unsure as to the lines, but this is what the manual says to do...

I did manage though to find another vacuum source... And its right before the TB... so im hoping this is better now... Been working on it in my lunch break, but cant start it as we have clients in the office next door.
