then replace if you have some knowledge and are confident do them yourself

its not very difficult just time consuming, you have be careful not to lose anything in the heads, and be willing swear your head off when doing the rear bank

it will save you a truck load of money

Go to Repco & ask them for some oil flush products. Half the noisy GR lifters I have come across lately, I've been able to run a flush type product though a few times & they have gone quiet again.

The main issue is old oil baking onto the insides of the slide tips - flushing can get it out.

I use to use a product called Nulon E20 it did wonder for my lifters when mine were screwed.

Hey thanks a lot for the info bennoz, i was looking to change mine some time soon. Do u know of any differences between kempy's aftermarket lifters and the genuine ones? nd where do i buy the mitsubishi lifters?

woah awesome DIY. very well done and easy to follow. (not that id trust myself doing it haha)

just wondering, is there any reason other than the noise to replace the tappets? does it allow the lifters to function better ie engine runs smoother?

I found that while the Kempys lifters were good, their life expectancy wasn't as good as genuines... but, even if you have to change them twice, its still cheaper to buy 2 sets from Kempys than it is to buy genuine items from Mitsubishi.

The lifters control the valve clearance, the better you got that set, the better the motor will run. Also good to change worn ones because if you have one seize up, it can lead to total destruction of a head in the worst case scenario.

MIVEC ones need adjusting, not replacement, but there is a plastic part in them that can break.

Yeah its a shame I never had a GPX to do a DIY guide on..

Anyways - there are also hydrulic lifters in a GPX that need replacing from time to time too. There are 12 of them, they are used to keep the mivec rocker arm on the mivec cam lobe when its not in use:

ohh i went on Kempys to buy the lifter just the other day nd
sent away the order form to get an email back 2day that the
price has gone up from $500 NZ for 24 to $600 NZ

Better than the $1250 the Mitsubishi will ask you for.

$1AU= $1.20NZ but i didnt realize mitubishi one were sooo hexpensive

ay bennoz i finally got round to doing the lifters cause i
thought it would take longer than your estimate of 6hrs.
but me nd a mate did em in 2hrs

haha what took u so long

by the way walk through was mint nd now my car sound so good.

Nah, it'll be ok. As long as they are not way out & making a huge noise, you'll be fine.

Ya. The tappet is quite noisy only for the first 15min from cold start. Do you reckon I should change the tappets soon?
