Where is the rear bank even located? haha I have very little knowledge of engine parts as you can see...
Are they the same one kempy's use to sell? Are there better ones? As the ones I replaced are noisy again already. I heard on the American forums we should use the generation three ones?
Nah, not the same as Kempys. Dunno how these ones will hold up, I've only just put them in.
These lifters from "meek" are the "3rd gen" ones :) Will be using them in my car next year when i buy a set ;)
Also will be buying an EVO8 MR Recirculating BPV (BOV), a cheap tough option :)

Sweet! I am pressure sure the kempys ones I purchased had a bore of roughly 3mm?? Im pressure sure the orginal lifters were 3mm as well??

Changed mine years ago though.

I may consider looking at the condition of my oil pan, oil pickup and using a better filter than the Ryco/Coopers brands as I heard a K And N and an Motocraft equivalent (cant remember the name) produces better oil pressure at startup.

Sorry if this is a stupid questions but what exactly do the lifters do?

Are these normally changed at the same time as tappets? Cos I've never heard them mentioned before.

I think lifters and tappets are the same thing, different name depending on who you're talking to.

Thanks Joe :)

Just making sure these are GR ones, just in case they may be GPX ones and the link was put in this thread on the topic of tappets?

I'm going to buy 2 sets if this is the case, these are dirt cheap..

Edit: What about the quality, a full set costs $155, are the quality of these trustable?

Ben
Can you confirm these
http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewI ... duct=12153
as you posted fit a GR?
They are suppling them for the GTO & looking on Camskill site they give them a different part number to the GR & they are also £50 cheaper for the GTO so I'm thinking htey are different :?
I'd like to buy a couple of sets if they are the same.

The "other forum" 3si.org that i use the guys do group buys from 3SX once to twice a year and get awesome deals from the owner of the shop :D

Will be hitting them up shortly to save money on parts+freight.
Need anything let me know i'll PM the guy who organises the purchase :)

Cheers Damo.

Well going by my quick research there are three types of Mitsubishi lifter in different sizes. 1st generation lifter, revised lifter, and 3rd generation lifter.

The 6A12 has always used third generation lifters and these buggers are meant to be total silent. The DSM boys generally say the 3rd generation lifters will shut up their engines for good. Unsure if the 6A12 is sh*t somewhere to cause the lifters to be noisy.

FTO lifters are not all made by the same manufacturer. A lot of them are made in china and quality could be different. Mine started to tick again after 30000kms so maybe I got some cheap chinese made onces.

You can grab them on ebay USA and they are roughly 100 bucks a set but unsure which ones are for the FTO.

Well, you could start by logging on under your own account

I'd replace them, no question. I've heard the tappets in her car, they're fucked. No amount of cleaning & oil additives will solve that.

Get them from 3SX (link above) and pay the $70 postage. It'll be $170 all up, which is cheaper than Meeks $250 plus postage.

Ahh I've STILL got to replace my tappets, they have been sitting in my wardrobe for the past 6 months.

Is there any update to the rear bank DIY? Would like to get it done in one go.

Also, what are the chances of tearing the head gasket? And is it expensive to replace / easy to source?

you dont take the heads off to do the tappets, only the cam cover, if you tear it (they're rubber) then just replace with exhaust gasket sealant like every other workshop

So I finally found a picture of the rear bank on an FTO:

Edit: Nevermind, the intake manifold looks relatively easy to remove.

Where exactly do I rotate the camlobe to undepress the springs?

Thanks
