WTB: First FTO, all help appreciated :-)
Hey Guys,
I've been trawling through the forums for a while and am on the hunt for an FTO after falling in love with these machines.
Any help is appreciated on finding an FTO for sale around Brisbane, and in general when buying one of these beasts.
Once I've found one, I'm sure you'll be seeing me more active amongst these forums.
Thanks a ton guys!!

Firstly, welcome to the club.
Lets narrow it down a bit. What are you looking for exactly. Auto/Manual, price range, GR/GPX/Version R, mileage etc.....
Anyway, heres a start:
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-brisbane/ft ... chBox=true
This is just brisbane. Although, I wouldnt rule out a drive/flight to get a good one.

Thanks mate, thanks for helping!
Looking for an auto, price range around 6,000 preferably, and not worried about the version as long as it's in good condition.
I found one in Crestmead on gumtree which is near me, however from the pictures I have doubts that it has been looked after with care over the years. So still looking around as much as I can.
Cheers mate

Looks clean enough for the age. And you'd still have $2k left over to play around with mods if you wanted.dstocks wrote:I know this isnt brisbane, but worth a look:

That's had some decent modification which makes it hard to maintain unless you know what you are looking atScorpionwally8 wrote:If you want to come down to the island state this is for sale and he may take $6k as he's had it for sale for awhile,

He's done a lot of mods to it including turbocharging the FTO I doubt he'd want to let it go for $6k. I know it's not impossible due to demand being low, but I'm a bit skeptical. Not to mention DJAY did say he wanted an Auto.Scorpionwally8 wrote:If you want to come down to the island state this is for sale and he may take $6k as he's had it for sale for awhile,

I've just had a look in Brisbane and I'm surprised by the lack of decent stock FTOs around (and most don't even have Rego). It may be worth your while to have a look around NSW and ask someone to take a look at the car for you...then do a nice long drive back.

Someone just posted an FTO for $1k ... you'll have to get the transmission ($800) and roof rust fixed, and I'm not sure how much the roof rust treatment is, but if you can get it done you can have some peace of mind knowing that the glue that causes the roof rusting is gone from the car. So to stay in your budget Roof Rust removal needs to be ~4200 and under... and then you have the usual Rego/Insurance. It's an Auto in Brisbane with the 2L Mivec engine so it may be well worth it depending on how many km's it's at. Just figured you may want to have a look. You'll have to get transport for it though since you cannot drive it until the repairs are made.

DJAY stated he was after an Auto...so it's up to him. However, < $800 for a manual conversion? You're making me think about getting one... maybe once my transmission is gone too I'll do it ...destinationtoby wrote:Can pickup a manual conversion less than $800Strkszone wrote:http://ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30216

Thanks for all the help guys!
Although the FTO for $1K looks great, I'm really quite looking for an FTO in working order.
Hence with the ideas being thrown around I'm now quite willing to travel to NSW with my mate, to pick up a good conditioned FTO.
Also the drive back home to Brissy, in the new beauty is sounding like quite the road trip!
Thanks Guys!

Get a manual and get Daniel2019's. Reconditioned motor among other things. I'll see if I can find it in the sale thread.

If you post up which ones you are interested in, there is a chance one of the members that is local can check it out for you to ensure it is worth the trip. No guarantee, but worth an ask.

Given how old these things are getting, this actually is a good option. Get something with a strong motor, and much easier to make it look good than it is to buy a show pony and have to fix engine.bjk wrote:Get a manual and get Daniel2019's. Dan's is a great all rounder... Sure the body could use some work if you are really fussy, but you know it is going to be strong for another 18 years on the engine...
I just had to add it ......
