Well you are partially right though. But for it to work, you need the slam plate texts with the hydro ionized black paint. The paint is usually around the text and such. This paint reacts with heat from the engine bay and releases enzymes into the air, which then get sucked into the engine via the intake pipe. These enzymes react with the fuel/air ratio, boosting around 5-7 kw power gain.

These slam plates are hard to find and quite expensive though. :\

The car is 100% stock. Doesnt though. Needs to be repaintes too due to sun damage. Overall very very good condition.

    ^Dstocks
One car is my everyday driver/aftermarket whore, my other will be my stock collecting one that I keep and hardly use.

    Okay soo.....

I talked to the owner of the car today and had a close up inspection.

    Downsides

    - Tires are about 70%
    - Needs new battery
    - Unregistered
    - Chip on the right side skirt
    - Sun damaged paint on bumpers that is flaking off.
    - Cracked centre console (but VERY well glued back together)
    - 250,000km

    Upsides

    - Body is very good
    - Interior is VERY well maintained
    - Good Pioneer sound system
    - Original rims in perfect condition
    - GPX MIVEC BRAAAHHHZZ
    - Never crashed or written off

He wants $2200 for the car. I'm gonna go 50/50 on the car with my dad. He's gonna drive it for a while because he has been after a sports car for a while and I think that he deserves one. We're gonna work on the car and restore it together, then after its mine. (He wants a Toyota Soarer, so I gotta get him one of these later after I take my FTO back)

I'm taking my friend there tomorrow. He's a mechanic. If he says it's okay, then we'll I will probably buy it. Opinions guys???

Actually, $2000 is not a bad price (but not an absolute bargain either for an unregistered car). Just put aside some cash for a possible engine replacement at some time in the future (you can pick them up fairly cheaply).Look for roof rust (bubbles on roof) and engine oil leaks.

I wouldnt say dont go there. Just dont be too enthusiastic. Its easy to be blinded by enthusiasm. There are plenty of cheap ones out there and you dont need to grab the first one you find. Here are a few....

Take your time. The right one will come along. Just keep your eye out. Saw one on gumtree for $500 earlier this week (not there now of course). It also may help to know exactly what you are looking for. There are a few different models and eachhave thrir own features. If you can workout what features are important to you (e.g. mivec/non mivec, colour, kms, manual/auto etc), it makes it a little easier to make the choice in the end. This page may help:

Not always. Possibly someone desperate. I picked up a white manual FTO with 220K on the clock which had just had all the belts, seals, boots etc done for $1200.Needed to fix a couple of things, but now thats done, drives brilliantly.

Added a link to my last post above (edited post) you might find interesting for comparison purposes.

From my experience as a game collector, I have been fooled many times so naturally when I see a low price, I think scam. I'll give it a shot next time though.

Oh and thanks for the link man. Appreciate it. :)

All you need to do is look into it. Dont think of paying for anything you havent seen. Make sure everything works and sounds right. Get a REVS check and be prepared to take the car away when you look at it (so they dont have a chance to remove good stuff/replace bits). If you follow those rules you shouldnt go wrong. I wouldhave thought you'd be more likely to be scammed as a buyer rather than a seller with a car.

I think, even if it needs a new engine, and the car has the rest in decent condition, he still has a good buy after spending a total of around 3k plus labour cost of the engine replacement.
Ryan, check if there is any leak...best way is to get underneath the car and look up towards the gearbox and engine.

Oh and please convince your dad not to buy a soarer. Test drove both the v6 twin turbo and the v8.... urgh! There are better cars out there. Even a well maintained lightly moded fto will be 100 times better than the soarer.

 I don't think a poorly maintained car with 250000 on the clock that's been left to run outta rego, will last to 500 000 very easily
