Giving Up on Owning an FTO cause of the insurance.

Post by Ezza »

How screwed over are we by the insurance companies with this car?

I live in SA and the only decent quote I've got from anywhere was Just Cars @ $879 or something a year, which is quite good really but I can't afford to pay even that cause i've going to be scraping the bottom at the barrel to even be able to buy one of these cars seeing as I keep having to drop the price on my s*&thouse VT Commodore that no one wants cause they're all so pissy about fuel prices. WHY THE HELL CAN'T JUST CARS GET WITH THE TIMES AND OFFER MONTHLY REPAYMENTS EVEN IF IT'S A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE!!!

The only other quotes I've been able to obtain are $1012.00 with $1000 excess :!: from RAA (P&H Imports) and $1200 & something with $500 excess from Shannons and thats only cause I lied and told them I had a garage when I only have a carport. Famous Insurance (IE: who Young and Cool have amalgamated with) wouldn't quote me because I actually told them the truth about only having a carport.

I refuse as a 25 year old female driver to pay more than $1000.00 premium, even if I do have two crashes (one not even claimed on as it was a minor bingle) and 1 speeding fine. And whats with having to give 5 years history on all the specialist insurance instead of the usual 3 for normal insurance!!!??? 3 is friggin' plenty! They make it so friggin' hard so I guess I must just give up the dream of owning one of these great cars as I can't afford the insurance... *sigh* :(

Ok first off you can lower your premium by increasing your excess (DONT CRASH  ) Secondly, i heard on the radio just yesterday that just car now does pay by the month.

:o REALLY? I can't find anything on the site stating that you can pay monthly... perhaps I should give them a call... That would be awesome! Can't remember how much the excess with just cars was though...prob pretty high. Might get another quote done...

Thanks for the info hey! :D

I should seriously be thinking about moving interstate ..

I'm 30, never been in an accident and the cheapest quote is $1,600 with Just Cars, and that's with $1000 excess.

Can't get insurance anywhere else coz no garage. I guess the other issue is where I live, Punchbowl, sydney people should know the rep of this area

As I said :!: in my original posts, the Just Cars quote is actually good but I won't be able to afford to pay for it all up in one lump because I can't get a decent amount of money for the VT Commodore I am trying to sell. Have dropped it to $6000 and still no interest and it's got fairly low km's for a 1998 (170,000). Most have done over 200,000.

Looks like I might just have to try and get $5000 for it, which means I will still be in the hole by $1700 on the loan so that limits what I can afford to reborrow for new car (read: FTO). I will have enough money to pay for transfer of rego/stamp duty etc etc but won't have any extra for a lump some for insurance so need one that will take monthly repayments at least for the first year but Just Cars usually doesn't and I don't want to pay over $1000 premium so Im a bit stuck.

But anyway, I don't see why I must explain my financial situation to yourself and if you don't have anything constructive to add then don't say anything at all...

Im pretty sure he was stating as a fact that those quotes from just car are fairly good. No one asked for your financial history but the fact is you have to find a way to get rid of your commodore if you really want an fto (based on your info before)...dont get all angry, just try and figure out a way for it to work out for you if it is what you really want. :)

Haha don't you think I've done that already?

I have worked it out, and I agreed that the Just Cars quote was good and had already said that, I don't need to be told it. My issue is I can't afford to pay for it all up so though Just Cars would be out and I only had two other quotes but were still too high in my opinion and I was just expressing my disgust at how you are treated like a leper by the insurance co's if you want one of these cars.

At the end of the day he is right, if I can't afford the insurance I can't afford one of the cars, hence the title of my post in giving up probably being able to get one at this time.

Sorry for snapping but Im just stressed out because I can see the whole dream slipping away cause no one wants the Commodore and I keep dropping the price and it still doesn't make any diff and I really don't need someone stating the obvious and rubbing it in! It's a bit of a sore spot at the mo esp when my original plan was to buy my old MR2 off the guy I sold it to before buying the commodore (for towing reasons) and now can't afford to buy that back either because of the lack of interest/price drops on the commie. So I thought "Hey, I like FTO's too and they're a bit cheaper than the MR2's so I'll try getting one of those" and now thats going up sh*t creek too. Guess Im just not destined to have another sports car... :( At this rate I'll have to just keep the Commie... *sigh*

Haha yeah and then I'll have another crash on my record...that'll bring the insurance cost down!

Hey whats the opinion on speeding fines and crashes...do the insurance co's see speeding fines as worse or crashes?

Ok, so what do you think about my minor bingle that I didn't claim on? It was my fault but it was extremely minor, like no damage to other vehicle and only baseball sized bit of damage to my car. I often don't mention it to the insurance co's cause i didn't claim on it so I reckon as far as they're concerned, it didn't happen.

Do you reckon they would find out about it and not pay if I was to crash an FTO? It was reported to the cops (just in case which turned out to be a good thing cause the bus co reported it and the cops rang me to find out why I hadn't but i had, the file was just opened at the same time as the other so they didn't link up, although not sure why they were pissy about it, crashes under $1000 damage don't have to be reported... :? ) but Im pretty sure I didn't report it to my current insurance co...

my point stands, if you cant afford it then dont buy it. simple. These numbers are hardly big so it it concerning that if yuo have trouble with there that moving forward you will be in bigger trouble when something needs fixing - fairly logical.

Take all of your money to the casino and put it on black.

Then you'll either have enough to pay the insurance, or the dream will be so far out of reach you'll have no option but to forget it.

Sigh...

Here try this mate.

Custom car insurance. It's done through GIO and they take monthly payments plus lower excess than just cars plus choice of repairer plus the premiums are usually lower, or the same as just cars, plus they're friendly most of the time unlike justcars.
