Evolution VII & VIII

Post by MIVEC_GPX »

Hey guys, just a quick question regarding the evo 7 & 8...

Were any of these models australian releases or are they all imports?

Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question but im looking into buying one or the other and was keen to go for an Australian delivered one rather than an import.

Thanks

EVO 7 are all grey imports.

EVO 8 was imported by Mitsubishi dealers under Ralliart in a small number of 200. But they cost a lot more then an grey import one.

One of the member here had bought a "local" EVO 8 and at least 2 have EVO 7.

EVO VII was not an australian release, VIII was. Not much difference how the VII has some nice additions.

Was down at sandown and my mate re-mapped his 7 with the RallyAart map and upped the boost a bit and its running 220kw atw now. Totally different and fantastic car as its about 140 atw stock.

I drove a 7 on loan and on the skid pad and its def. one of the best cars out of the box...basically it does everything for u its amazing.

You can pick them up in the 30-40k bracket depending on mods. The VIIIs were Aussies releases and are not much more in the 40k bracket. I wouldnt be worried about a import over a local release at all, u might find some goddies on your import!

We call them the "cheater" cars in our club...cos they are just so good on our regualr skid pad days and go well on the track.

There are a few in my club these days. Some are the MR type with some nice CF additions with slightly better specs - re-map fixes all that.

If you do upgrade to the EVO..you wont be disapointed in its performance and the qty of avaliable mods.

I'm looking at a EVO now also. It helps when one of the best EVO tuners is down the road...who is currently competing in the Targa of Tassie.

Check out the Aus Evo forums:
http://www.evolutionoz.net/forum/phpBB2 ... 7c0ff21762

Their For Sale section has some nice mod'd versions for sale and plenty of info.

heheh is more fun when you have 3

So which one you prefer to drive, the STi or EVO 8, I haven't drove the MY07 STi, but i was told the boost doesn't come as strong as the EVO 9 or at least it doesn't feel like it does.

for the sti, boost doesnt feel as strong, but that is because on the dyno its more fine tune with the 2.5L
and i dont realli like the sti gearbox, when i shift gears, i dont even feel its engaged....and damn the clutch is way too like for a sports car....
but the steering is very nice though!
and the sti has the rumble that the evo can never give...

Yes that rumble :D You can't escape from that rumble. I've got 5 friends that have STi. One of them is Johnny from OnTheRunPerformance, so he can hook you up with all goodies.

From what you said, the EVO would be a better track car, and STi is more for daily street warrior.

driving wise i like the evo better, it feels a lot sporty
sti does have a more comfort ride
but damn that huge scoop on the bonnet is not my favourite!
and it has nicer interior than evo
+ i love the defi instrument panel !!!
and i do like the sti gold brembos with larger rotors than the evo...
but evos feel like the stronger braker...

well i dont know if ill get away with that around mitcham ringwood :)

just weighing up the evo as an option - better priced then other cars that I am looking at & quicker! and not as much of a boy racer as the evo 5 & 6.

can anyone tell me all the differences between the evo VII GSR and GTA.

I think the GTA only comes in automatic? and can have a nicer interior / smaller wing / etc etc.

Can you get the leather options in the GSR?

GTA is smaller turbo, weak transmission and lower engine output
no recaros, no bonnet vent, smaller wing
but nicer interior dash usually with GPS (only JAP though)

buy GSR, leather is rare in jap...
i got leather recaro option for front and back when i bought mine brand new

One of the Adel member got the GTA (dam i forgot his name...). I find GSR is the best of out of all the range of RS, RSII, GSR and GTA.
