The 1.6 mivec is a 4g92?
I understand this would require a different flywheel and clutch and starter motor?

Maybe I should try to find a decent condition second hand quaife qbe32g or qbe34g..

To be honest I have heard mixed reports.
Pretty much everyone told me that the 4G92 MIVEC gearbox fits, as it has both positions for the starter motor, and you just use FTO flywheel/clutch. And this is confirmed with a few people in the UK using this setup, however when I bought this gearbox and took it to my mechanic he said it wouldn't fit and he had to transfer the internals over into the FTO casing.
The diffs have different outputs for the driveshafts between the 2 though

Yeah, I know, been a while since an update, and you're wondering if I'm still at it..
Yes, I am. Doing it all carefully, and right.
At the end, I don't want to look at some aspect and think I could have done something better, I wanna be happy with my result.

So, I have ECU, Igniters mounted on custom panels.
Wiring is partially done. (I am wiring it all myself, of course, and with that comes a custom loom. All at correct lengths, terminations, plugs, sleeving, etc.)
Excess factory loom removed, wiring tidied up.
Some rewiring behind the dash.
Fuel tank is out for mods and custom solid state level sensor, also awaiting upgraded fuel pump, and rewire.
6 pencil coils installed. (Individual/sequential ignition)
And,the bit some of you were quite keen for, my inlet manifold is complete (except airbox, working on that right now)

Apologies in advance for the image size.
Xperia S, taken @ 9MP 16:9 aspect.

Engine Bay:
Image

MAP sensor, relay and fuse boxes, ECU, Igniters. (the wiring near igniters is awaiting Souriau UTS connectors)
Image

AEM Pencil Coils (go ahead, get them. They need slight mods to fit plug tube)
Image

Throttle Bodies;

Closer:

Image

Fuel Rails modified, held down with alloy clamps which are held by the TB's, all attached by 4 Stainless Socket Head Cap Screws (aka allen bolts)

End view of modified manifold:

Again:

GET SOME!!!
Image

Will get some more pics for you with the TB's/manifold all separated into its component form...

In the meantime, custom airbox/plenum..
This will be equally as interesting as the induction setup itself!

Now, a question for you technically minded/interesting thinkers..
What am I going to do about Idle Speed Control?
2 methods available..
2 hints:
I am not running stock ECU,
Elise does not have assisted brakes.

Lets see what ideas you may come up with...

Everything looks really good Clint.
You've been holding out on us, who did the triple TB setup? Should sound really good.

Fabrication of inlet manifold/TB setup was done by Dave Broadhurst, designed by me.

Did you consider going ITB?
Any plans for upgraded cams?

If anyone can tell me of tried and tested cams that give guaranteed benefit, I will look into it for sure. Considered 6 tb. Yeah. Not sure if enough room. May revisit that idea later.

Valandis has custom stage 2 NA cams, id pm him to see what his thoughts are on them, otherwise you could always get a few customs made up yourself. Get something like the HKS 272 grind on FTO cams

Valandis' cams are rpw I believe.
I read a topic on how it took somewhere like the orbit of Halleys comet to get the damn things, then they didn't fit right. Thanks. Pass.
As for a custom grind, I am not going to pretend I know what all the specs mean. I mean, I understand the lift and duration, etc, but the amount of overlap and the effects, no idea whether I would go forward or backward.
If there was something proven, off the shelf, no prob.

You dont have to know personally wtf all that is all about, as long as you take your car (or rather the specs etc) to someone who ACTUALLY knows there sh*t, they should be able to make you up a fairly tailored grind for your style of driving (100% track im assuming?), what your current mods are etc and so forth.

Who knows, if you can get a good enough grind to suit a few fto's then you might get enough interest for a mini group buy - it just depends how much they are based on your specific setup, which actually now thinking about it your running 3 TB's, so probably not :x Still - keen to see the end result!

Cams will definitely give you an improvement. The question is how much and will it be worth the money.
I think you should budget around $1,500+ for custom cams made up, and that is not including valve springs, installation, tuning etc.
But the rod/stroke ratio of the 6A12 is really good, and the stroke is really short, so with cams + valve springs the motor should rev past 8,500 reliably and easily.

Taz, the 272 grind I think is for turbo use only

So, where to start?
What sort of specs should I be looking for with cams?
Where do I source good valve springs to suit?

When I was getting my engine rebuilt and talked to the builder (or machinist, not sure exactly) he had told me that he measured the valve springs and went through some catalogue and figured that some Honda springs will fit. How true this is and what Honda motor I cannot tell you though.
You can get custom springs fairly cheap though I believe.

As for cams there are a few Australian cam specialists but you may want to consider getting someone in the US to make them for less.
I contacted Crower Cams (custom@crower.com) and he told me "On an order of 1 to 2 sets we’re talking $1200 to $2000." which seems very reasonable, though factor in postage costs and customs(?) and maybe things start adding up.

He mentioned it would be much more feasible to get 10+ people to do a group buy but I doubt this would be a realistic scenario. I personally would be interested, but towards the end of the year.

Said something like the 272 grind spetz, not actually get it ;) Would probably make him go backwards if he put it in.

Just talk to a lot of people clint, every place you trust to do a good job and get an idea of rough costs. It most likely will be cheaper getting something from the states though.

Umm, dont wanna pop the cam bubble, but I had a number of quotes from cam grinders over the years & nothing came back less than 5 grand. The 4 blank billets alone are are worth 2 grand.
